Really need help!!! Range/Interference isuues.

Got my new truggy a few weeks ago. Awesome bit of kit. Was nitro now converted to brushless. For some reason the range seem to be really crap. Can only get about 30 feet away and my car takes of on its own. Got no idea why. I've posted about this on here before. Followed everybodys advise and made sure the antenna wire is not running with anything else. Still gor the same issues. The radio gear was used in my DF03 and I never had any issues with it. Also thaught it was the servo so used the same servo as I did in the DF03 but this didn't make a difference either. Here is a few pictures of the layout.

Please help!!!

Get the aerial tube closer to the receiver. Ideally you don't want any of the receiver wire on the metal chassis.

+1

also use a plastic mount for the ariel tube rather than what looks to be a metal item

+2.... metal chassis and hoffing great motor on metal motor mount to chassis:woot:. get that aerial right next to the reciver in plastic mount, also you ahve all those metal drive shafys going into metal cups clatering around, nasty for radio gear

If you still get probs you may need to put the RX back in a radio box with the aerial mont as part of the box.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Everything made sense. So I thaught I've got a radio box, I'll use it. Now it looks like this with the receiver in the radio box and aerial mounted on the radio box. Now I'm really confused. It made no difference what so ever. :o What else can it be???
If I go 2.4Ghz will it definately work or will I still have the same issue??? Could it be the speed controller??? Although its a new Mtroniks esc. Please help!!!

have you tryed new batteries in your tranny sounds daft but low power can effect it,also i used to have a futaba receiver the same as that 1 and i had the same problem solved it by binning it and buying a new 1.if you still have problems id replace it

jandesousa 27-11-2010 09:48 PM

Yep, already replaced batteries with some nice new duracell ultra's. Just don't understand it. I had all this radio gear in my DF03 and it worked fine. Might test it in the DF03 again just to make sure.

racingdwarf 27-11-2010 11:31 PM

Should have thought of this earlier, have you tried a diffrent crystal? as they are actualy very fragile and could be faulty, if not it can only realy be the reciver it's self or the transmitter

Check your reciever wire, If the sleeve has any scuffs I'm pretty sure its the culprit.

range..glitching issue

I agree with previous posts...metal chassis and receiver wire close to it is not a good look really..good pointers from others suggesting checking receiver wires for chinks..move all radio gear closer together and get some plastic around it! also coil your cables around a pencil (leaving a spiral on all wires). This not only saves space but also avoids any sharp angles (and therefore potential chinks) in receiver wires.

Try those suggestions and good luck mate...truggy looks really cool aswell

good words from all who have posted so far :)

Warm wishes

Did you have that speedo in your other car?

jandesousa 28-11-2010 04:20 PM

Thanks again for all your replies. The only bit thats not the same is the speed controller. So this afternoon I did some intensive testing. I am now almost 100% sure its the speed controller. What I did was:
Connect an external battery pack to the receiver. Only connect the steering servo to the receiver. Do a range test. No problems what so ever.
Now connect the speed controller to the receiver. Obviously without the red wire that goes to the receiver. Do a range test again. Major problems immediately. Can't get 20 feet away from the car and it goes mental.
Now I know its the speed controller. But this is a new speed controller from Mtroniks with a new motor. Why is it doing this? Could it be the capasitor?

I'll try and contact Mtroniks tomorrow and see what they say.

I'll keep you all up to date.

I'll put some more pics up when I've got it sorted. It is a really nice bit of kit. The brushless conversion stuff and a few other bits is all machined aluminium. Very well build.

Just a small update. Spoke to Mtroniks and as always they were very helpfull. The bloke said he never heard of this problem but said he is gonna send me a device that I can connect between the speed controller and receiver that should fix the problem, free of charge. :)

I'll update you all again when I've got it and tested it. Fingers crossed.
