Club meets in Newport/Bristol area?
 

Hi guys, I'm looking for a club in and around the Newport/Bristol area. Caldicot is an excellent club and I hope to go there regularly, but they meet on a Fri night and it will make it differcult for me to attend as often as I want to.

Are there any other clubs in that area that cater for buggies and meet on any other evening than Fri and Sat? (I work Sat nights as well)

For 1/10th buggy - no, basically. Caldicot is your best bet and it is indeed a good club.

On the welsh side there is a club in Cardiff and a couple beyond there, but I don't know much about them.

On the English side, you have the WORM club near Weston-super-Mare who run micro buggies, and for on-road you have a few clubs in the surrounding area, none of which are that close to Bristol. Chippenham run Tuesdays (indoor on-road in the winter, they run buggies outdoors in the summer), Gloucester run Fridays, there are also clubs in Melksham and Frome that I don't know a great deal about either!

Bristol is a bit of a black hole for RC clubs (and shops). I have looked into setting something up in the past but decent venues are hard to find and it costs a lot to start a club from nothing these days.

Cobra (Cardiff) or the Swansea club on the Welsh side, both a little further along than Newport, but both run on sunday daytimes...check their websites for details...both are linked in various threads in the WRCA section.

Nothing running indoor/outdoor offroad in the Bristol area unfortunately...although I'd love someone tell me otherwise?!?! :D

WORM near Weston-super-Mare run offroad micro's on Tuesday nights every other week, but they don't run 1/10th as their hall is a little small.

Hereford is the next closest one after that I think...which isn't really that close at all, and they run Friday nights as well.

Not sure the Gloucester/chippenham area clubs run offroad at all.

It's a little weak in the South West area currently :cry:

Ah well, looks like theres no other option other than to tell the missus Friday nights for R/C....she wont like that....not at all :(

I'm lucky, my other half runs a restaurant, so weekends are her busiest work times...leaving me free to indugle in whatever (childish) endeavours I fancy!!! :thumbsup:

I'm In Cheltenham and have the same sort of problem, nowehere to race proper cars midweek :'(

Unfortunately I have had to admit defeat on that and buy a snooring car (at least it's still a Kyosho) but can't bring myself to go to the club ... not yet anyway.

I can confirm Gloucester meet on a friday night but don't run buggies (not officially) and as their venue is smaller than some peoples lounges I can't say I blame them. The club is 5 miles from the M5 junct 11 (only 3.5 miles from my house but still can't seem to make it there).

I must admit that my first instinct was to buy a micro and give that a try, it's sort of a buggy after all. That was monumentally unsuccessful (4 months, didn't finish a single race due to electrical issues!!) and now have resigned myself to the fact that if I want to practice I have to go up to Hereford every other friday, just over a 100 mile round trip for a club night :o

Have you considered the trip over to Caldicot?

Not sure of your exact location, but just did a google maps route and it's saying 46 miles, 59mins from Cheltenham to Caldicot, versus 51 miles and 1hr 15mins to the Hereford club in Leominster.

The motorway route, although carrying the 'bridge toll' in the way there, would surely cut the trip time down a bit more too with a 'good criuse' on! The route avoiding the toll is shorter at 41 miles, but takes longer at 1hr 10mins on the A roads.

Not wishing to pull you away from your chosen local as we run every Friday, but it's always nice to see new faces and offer another option for you the weeks when Hereford is not running offroad!

thanks for the heads up. What time do you guys open the doors, start racing and finish up?
Problem for me on a Friday heading towards Bristol is that it takes what feels like a lifetime to get past the M4 junction and head to the bridge. If the logistics work out I might well pop over one night.
What are the rules (tires, motors, charging arrangements etc etc)

Personally speaking I wouldn't go over the bridge to get to Caldicot from Gloucester/Cheltenham way. They'll sting you for £5.50 for starters. I'd take the A48 past my Dad's house!

Doors from about 6:30-7pm
Booking in by about 8pm (late comers added as and when though)
Racing by about 8:15-8:30
3 qualifiers, 1 final
Usually about 5 heats, 2wd & 4wd heats every week, micro's and trucks if there's any turnout.
Usually finish racing about 11 - 11:30

Tyres, to suit mixed surface, carpet, polished floor, wooden features..minipins most popluar.
No limitations on tyres or motors.
240 mains is available, but best to have an extension lead to hand as the power points aren't in the pits.
Limited tables, first come first served, so safest to come prepared as the early birds get them. But we do have plenty of chairs.

Randon built track features each week..depending on how crazy we're feeling!

All very relaxed, and Yes, Craig still pops his head around the door...most weeks at the mo in fact!

The bridge toll is a bugger, but is most likely the quickest if you can cope with being stung by it! The M4/M5 interchange is always a gamble, but I come up from Weston-super-Mare each week and altough busy it's normally ok to be honest. You could always go the A roads there and motorway back avoiding that toll and maybe the worst of the traffic. Never been down those roads so no idea how rapid they are?!? Certainly shorter in miles that way!

Oh and it's only £3 for non members to race!

I come through the M4/M5 interchange at about 6pm on Fridays and it's usually pretty clear going from one to the other, the few times I've come straight from work to Caldi I've been there by 6:30, as soon as you're on the old bridge road (not sure of the number, A48?) you're laughing.

But you should all just buy micros and come to WORM every 2nd and 4th Tuesday :D

Another vote here for Caldicot Club, it rocks as does its awesome tracks every week, also vintage night once a month now throughout the winter :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Caldicot rocks big time. Still listed in my all time two best clubs. Great people, great tracks, great atmosphere. Roger, dont you still owe me a rare rear shock tower mount?

It's the M48, leave at the 1st junction after coming over the old bridge and join the A48 at Chepstow :thumbsup:

Ironically, I now work in Brissle and have to brave the M4/M5 interchange myself to get home before I can get to club :rolleyes:

Awesome track this week! So many level and surface changes made it challenging but rewarding when got right. Great effort in the limited space which made for a fun night's racing.

Roger, I haven't seen you there since the christmas meeting a few years back when I beat your shiney new RB5 with a Cougar. :p (not any of this SV crap, the original Top Cat with upright front shocks! :D )
