bd cvds pin flying out! argh!

Just built my cvds and fitted them, and on first run the pin that holds the bone to the hub carrier came flying out! And before you ask yes it had thread lock in the little screw.

Help please i dont want this to happen again.

is it possible to grind a flat on the pin ? ive just had a B4 and im going to look into this

captainlip 06-11-2010 07:57 PM

I dont think so as they fit flush

he means grind a flat in the middle of the pin where the grub screw hits it.
Could also try a little silicone seal over the tips of the pin after it is in.

I've seen guys put a small piece of heat shrink tubing over the cvd cup, and that way even of the set screw comes loose the pin stays in.

Is this on a B4.1 ? does anybody just use the clips instead of using the grub screws to keep the pin in ?

captainlip 06-11-2010 08:23 PM

Yes this is the 4.1

Im liking the heatshrink idea

peetbee 06-11-2010 08:31 PM

On the 4.1 driveshafts don't they have the clip that surrounds the pin?
(BTW you should still use the grub screw as well as the clip)

If no clip then use the heatshrink like Rob suggested. I've had that on my B4 for a couple of years and haven't lost a pin so far!

No clips on this set though i know which ones your on about

captainlip 06-11-2010 09:02 PM

Any more ideas?

Went with the heat shrink trick, 2 coats and its nice and tidy! Dont see it been a problem now! Thanks!
