Sound, speakers..

Dont know if anyone on here has " sound systems " as another hobby?
Anyway, im revamping my bedroom and want a bad ass sound system which will be loud and rattle most things in my room. (neighbours arent an issue here, they'll just get told where to stuff it!)
Any ideas? Speakers must be big :)

depends how much you want to spend. A nice pair of floorstanders would do the job if you want your room to shake!
I've got a pair of Missions i've had for years and they get better with age.

Are you after a mini hi-fi or separates?

Mini hi-fi i would guess.

Are you wanting to go 5.1 ect?

Try Richer sounds.
Dont know if its already your hobby or not but the guys at richer sounds are really really helpfull and not at all pushy. Most of em know their stuff too.

Ben,

Go for separates, you'll get a much better system.

I've a separate set-up here. I've yet to push it anywhere to the limit, volume less than have way, serious amount of 'bump' you can feel that amount of air the speakers are moving. But still a clear and crisp sound from it. It's good enough to fill the house with music.

Amp, speakers & cd player (or go proper old skool & turn-table), don't forget interconnects and you're ready to go.

A place like Richersounds (I got mine there when they had a shop here), will let you demo the set-up before you part with the cash. They'll make changes / suggestions based on what you are looking for.

Ben.

You don't want big speakers if you want 'rumble' you need a dedicated sub. I have a tannoy 5.1 speaker set in the living room http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/6211
It's crazy, more suited to films than music, but is still decent with 2 channel cd music. If you crank up the sub, it will literally shake the floor, scares the pants off you in some films :)

As said, get yourself to richer sounds. A 5.1 system for movies and games is very different to a system just for music. I've never bought floorstanding speakers, I've had lots of quality 2 channel stand mounted speakers in my hi-fi systems, and never felt the need for anything bigger. You'd be amazed at how a £200 pair of stand mounted speakers sound with a good amp and source.

Ben.

For sensible money, something like this will be miles better than any Mini system from currys...

That Denon system spec reads well. I bought a Denon UD-M30 system similar sized some years ago after reading the what hi fi review. Superb bit of kit for the money. I'd definitely have another, in fact I'm tempted at that price myself.

if you just want some rumble on the cheap Ben then get a subwoofer. Should do what your after i think. A nice ported enclosure will give you lots of noise and get your room shaking but wont sound as "tight" as the bass produced from a sealed enclosure.
It all depends on what you want to spend. You get what you pay for as always
