details details.

what receiver?

captainlip 29-10-2010 05:31 PM

ah sorry

its the XP3-SS 2.4 GHz 3-channel radio system that comes with the b4.1

i was going to upgrade to the spektrum dx3e at £70 but after thinking about it i quite like the handset and the only reason is i want a short stubby aerial like the b44 chaps.

Hi fella... I have several spektrum radio installs but all use the same rx... some are the original 8.5" length rx antennae and some are the 3.6" hand-shortened length and all perform equally well...

I ran a spektrum system in my b4 with a 8.5" antennae... but just laid the antennae wire down inside the chassis tub with just a small amount exiting thro' the antennae tube to the outside of the shell and no loss of performance was exhibited at all with this method either!! Try that idea first before you start shortening the antennae if you just want the cosmetic stubby aerial look...

super thanks! so do you mean tape it all down to the chassis with just a few inches antenna?

Yeh, exactly dude... simples! I doubt any impact on range will be of any significance using this method, so give it a go..! There is nothing much uglier than a MASSIVE aerial tube ruining yer sleek bodylines I must agree... lol...

Done already! Thanks! Usually run indoors no more than a 40m distance

yep - don't cut your aerial wire!

I run a Spektrum, and the last inch or so of wire is the exposed core of the lead, which is deliberate I understand.

If yours is the same, cutting is would almost certainly not be clever.

Anyhoo, you have a decent plan B now.

Ay up Andy lad, how's it going..?

Are you sure Andy..? none of my spekky tx's have any exposed wire... but the dx2/3 manual states you can cut the antennae wire down to 3.6" from the original 8.5" without loss of performance...

well, the "wire", ie copper isn't exposed, sorry ... but there is about an inch or so at the end where the inner plastic core of the aerial wire is exposed.

Car is in the garage, I'm tired and cba fetching & photo-ing it right now... else I would show ya !!
