servo saver on cat sx?
 

hi there,

i have now got my cat sx up and running and i decided that instead of running a normal servo horn i would run a servo saver on the servo to protect it. however the servo saver hits on the side of the undertray and it is not allowing the bodyshell to go tight up against the undertray.

my question is can you buy a slim servo saver? i currently have a kimbrough servo saver but it is quite thick and pushing on the side of the undertray, any ideas?

I am using a low profile servo, this means there is excess room between the base of the servo and the side of the lipo, allowing me to cut down the servo mounting posts bringing the servo more inboard and provides sufficient room for a servo saver. (This does assume you have a lipo version SX)

yes i have the lipo version and i will have a look and see if there is any room. but which end did you cut down the servo posts?

The opposite end to that which has the flats - you will need those to aid tightening and removal of the posts. You will probably need slightly shorter grub screws and servo mounting screws to ensure they don't lock out in the middle of the post. It'll become clear when you have a look.

But a Savox 1258 and bin the servo horn!

spot on. The savox is fully metal geared through out, no plastic sacrificial gears. The Cat and cougar can be pretty tough on servo gears, but had no issue since switching to a 1258TG

I popped the plastic gear in my KO server without a saver on, but since fixing it never had a problem with breaking servos. just don't hit things hard :D
