improvement suggestions for the cat SX
 

I've owned my cat for a few months now and it's great that they've fixed the idle gear issues.

last night I had to replace the rear belt which is a bit of a nightmare to say the least. I don't know if there is an easy way to do this, but it resulted in the whole back end of the car parting with the chassis and the idle gears coming off, gearbox parting, etc. you know the deal.

Surely a good idea would be to have a bearing cap which screws down into the gearbox halves and allows the top layshaft to be lifted out of the car in 2 or 4 screws?

Anyone else got a suggestion for an improvement?

I think my main issue with changing the belts are the diff centrics, and getting those to match on both sides. It just seems a bit clumsy. Yes it's easy enough, but can get a bit a tedious. It would be good though if, like you suggested, the layshafts had a retainer that would allow easier access.

I know what you mean there. you seem to get 1 side in and then the other and then the 1st side has moved lol.

yeah! exactly! and the ally ones are much more finicky!

Much prefer the alloy ones. Don't get how you do so many belts. 14 months on I am still on the originals as is SteveB

touch wood i haven't done a belt in a year with the cat either. probably depends a lot on the track you race at and any dirt getting in around the gears and wearing on the belt.

As for car improvements, the main ones are covered by third party bits such as the stegger brace to beef up the front end, and the atomic carbon lipo retainer for cells without humps.

I wish the fat springs were different colours like the old ones, as the writing on the ends will wear off pretty quick! Not a huge fan of the blob of nail polish approach!

cutting the top off the diff housing for quick release rear shaft shouldn't be hard to do. I'll get some spares to try it on :)
