Problems - Orion Vortex 10.5
 

Im running an Orion Vortex 10.5 with a LRP Sphere TC Spec Speedo in my touring car and am having a few problems.

The first week I ran the motor it was great - performed flawlessly. The next week I put the car down on the line and it didnt move - the speedo was suggesting a jammed motor (however it wasn't jammed). I had to install a brushed motor for the evening which worked fine with the speedo.

I stripped down the Vortex as far as possible and rebuilt it - I put the car down for practice the following week and it was absolutely fine (problem solved I thought :rolleyes:). Put the car down for the first heat and you guessed it, the car didn't move - the same fault showing on the speedo.

Have I just got a duff motor or could anyone suggest something I may be missing or should try? For information I have tried another brushless motor and an alternative sensor wire and everything is OK.

I would replace the sensor wire. it sounds like the speedo does not know what the rotor is doing.

see if you can borrow one from a known working system to rule that out.

EDIT - I read a bit more and I am confused - does the new sensor wire with your motor work OK?

try your vortex with a diffrent sensor wire like chris said if that doesnt stop it it must be a dead motor send it back to mirage they should replac eit for you.

How long are your motor screws??

As the ones you use in your brushed motor will be fractionally to long.

I'd put money on it being a bad joint on the sensor module. Take it out (it's teh board that the sensor lead plugs into) The joints on the back of the sensor plug are often a little suspect. If you are happy giving it a go they can easily be re-soldreed, but don't do it if your not confident.

They are available as a complete new board from Speed Passionn (via Schumacher) if you can't repair the origional one.

I've eliminated the sensor wire and screws as being the problem.

As Matt suggests I will take a look at the board - is it easy to get out, does it just pull out? Dont want to cause any damage to the motor.

As you said you'd stripped it down, i assumed you knew how it came out - hence i didn't bother putting it down!!

Anyway:

You need to take the sensor end cap off. You will then see the board - the beraing is in the centre of it. Then rotate the board, until it pulls out.
