B4.1 FT - Steering Posts - awkward fit
 

Anybody else had a problem building their steering rack on the B4.1?

I found...

a) that the 2 bearings didn't slide over the screw thread without being forced a little.

b) that the long bolt didn't seem to align nicely through the servo saver, to the point where I had to put some lateral force onto the bolt to get the bearing into the top of the servo saver bolt.

The steering doesn't therefore seem to be quite as free as I'd like it to be!

No problems with mine.

Never had a problem with any B4.

don't take this the wrong way - but I'm ok with following the manual !! :D I know what you're saying is a workaround to get it to come together, but basically even if you do that it's tight, and regardless - the bearings still have to be forced over the thread.

Basically, there was definitely something "not well" with the bolt which came in my kit. I've just picked up a new one from MB and it's fixed it. Cheers, Mr B.

No, it's ok I'm not taking it the wrong way. (Defiantly a work=around.)

What I hoped I got across is slightly different to the manual. I've built a lot of b4 and I've found a situation similar to yours. Tight steering. The solution I found was what I described above (well I hoped I've explained it.)

What I think was happening with mine was the bearings were not square, IE the servo saver nut was not threaded in square. So I used the bolt as a guide for the servo saver not.

But from the sounds of it, your issue is slightly different. Can happen that a bolt can be manufactured slightly over sized.

As long as you got it sorted out.

aye cheers fella. It was definitely the bolt, as I have now changed it and it's fine.

oh joy - now I have 4 missing screws and 4 missing nuts - the ones needed to fix the shocks on.
