Material for a 1/8th buggy chassis
 

For my college project i want to machine a Xray xb808 2009 /10 chassis from raw material however i need to know what other materials can i make them from as i cannot afford 7075 t6 alumininum

You can consider 6061-T6.

6082 - t6 would be the best option, readily available here, better than 6061.

Honestly, I think you should just save a few more bucks and use 7075-T6...it isn't "that" much more expensive than your other options. Plus, making a chassis out of 60 series aluminum will look good, be easy to mill, but just won't stand up to the abuse & punishment we all put our 1/8 scale buggies through.

Like Candyman said, and believe him...he knows what he is talking about and doing, 6082-T6 is beter than 6061-T6, but it is still 60-series, and costs almost as much as 7075-T6.

My $0.02 is to just get 7075-T6 and make a real chassis, one that will stand up to anything you put it through!

Second best option would be 2024 (dural). It's MUCH better than 6082 with a yeld tensile strength nearly twice as high depending on the tempering you can get (2024 T861 being one of the best with 510 MPa against 255 MPa for 6082 T6).

FYI 7075 T6 has a yeld tensile strength at 24°C of 517 MPa...

Thats all very well but here in the UK, trying to source 2024 or 7075 is a complete pain, where as 6061 is readily available and pretty cheap (you can pick it up on ebay!).
