RB5-shocks
 

I have an RB5 MCS. I assembled it, starting from an RB5 that I bought second hand.
It came with special rear shocks.
I noticed this after buying another RB5 from a friend. He sold the RB5 that had hardly ran, together with a lot of spares, rims, .. for about € 100,00.
This car was an original RB5 and had silver-coloured Rear Shocks, while mine are darker, more goldisch.
They also seem a bit longer then the silver shock-bodies.

Can someone give me some more info on the RB5-shocks?
different types, advantages, purposes, ... part numbers?

Hi Ludo,

the first-gen RB5s were sold with longer shocks. Then they upgraded the car with shorter rear shocks and towers, along with new goldish hard-coated shock bodies.

So your friend's RB5 must one of the first sold, with long, non hard-coated shock bodies.

The dark gold hard coating shocks are called "Velvets" and the part numbers for them contain a V at the end. You can upgrade standard light grey Kyosho shocks with the addition of new Velvet shock bodies.

Does anyone know where one can order these BB-shocks?
have looked around for them, but net yet found in a shop.

2nd: Do the regular RB5-springs adapt to these BB-shocks or does one need other (larger) springs?

The BBores aint out till October i have been informed. I've got mine on back order so soon as they come out i be having some :p

Big bores will be mid October(ish) in the UK I am told and you will need new springs.

They are already available in Japan. I have seen photos of a few cars with them installed already.

The springs are all new and different, which will require all new springs and new setups. IMO, the cost isn't worth it for the small performance increase—which is even still debatable at this point, if there is one at all.

Personally, I'd like to know the weight difference between the 2 types of shock sets, but that's another discussion elsewhere on this forum. ;)

try RC-champ in Japan. Kyosho Germany has them in stock around week 41.

Well,

We got our delivery from Japan and it appears the big bores are out of stock as they have not arrived :( hopefully they will arrive middle of the month. We have had the springs arrive though :eh?:
