1/8th and 1/10th indoor track.

I have had a rethink!

Due to Bury Metro Club having to move there track, the counsil will be moving us. I thought as the Chairman of the club to rent an indoor place.
I have been to look at some places and I think 10,000sq ft is plenty of room.
Yes I think it would have to open 7 days aweek and yes fee's would be a little higher than the norm.
It would have to be a dirt track and big enough for Regionals/ Nats/ Euro's/ Worlds.
Pitting also indoor around the track.
1/10th and 1/8th electric off road is defo and nitro 1/8th is possible with some venterlation.
I have sent a few email around different manufactures to see if they would help in say like a sponsored event in there names.
They are getting back to me.
I think this would be ace and just need people to comment.

I have the 5p Si, Let go and get it.

I dont mean to BUY, I mean to rent silly.

Even to rent thats got to be a LOT of money though. It would make an awesome venue, but needs mucho coin to run. If we could afford, I'd be all up on it, but its big money......

They've got the annual rent down at £75,816, plus bond plus all the outgoings, its easily big enough though at 35,000 square feet.. Twice the size it needs to be really i think. Are you looking for people to invest

Right now it is something we are thinking of. I really need to know what sort of price you all would pay to race there? It would be a DIRT track and it is big enough for 1/8th. Indoor pitting also.
Yes it is expensive but as someone said a few years ago' If you build it they will come'
LOL.
It would probably mean to race on a Sunday it could be about £15-£20.
Midweek maybe £10.
Let me know please as this is a TOP place and if there is enough interest then we will do it.

Would Josh not fancy moving the shop to it? Have the track open daily during office hours, and one evening, plus Sundays.

Heck, id buy a cheap RTR and race soley there if it was to happen...., 15-20 would be cheap if its made into the indoor mecca for RC racing in the North.

The return of the Mr Long.

Yes that is the idea mate. Just need to make sure it would work if we are going to spend the money.

That would mean you will need at least 73 racers every week, each paying £20 just to break even.

I for one would defo be up for it, never raced on a dirt track before.

Think the shop at trackside would be a really good idea, and mid week racing a must with the rent been quite high.

Really do hope you get it Woody, and best of luck if you do

Just one thought from someone who has raced nitro indoors before.

1. Noise. Even in a big warehouse, the noise of 12 rallycross cars going round will be huge and give you a headache.

2. Fumes. We had to leave the doors open to get enough ventilation, which meant in the middle of winter (minus 6 outside) it was absolutely freezing.

For electric though it would be awesome, good luck to you guys!

DCM 20-09-2010 03:29 PM

I think you would have to look at it as a business with a track, rather than a track with a business, but would be awesome though.

If JE Spares relocate there too you can subtract from that figure the amount they current pay for Optima House, which must be a fair bit I guess. Do that and the figures start making sense.
Sounds do able - though I agree about Nitros indoors. Will need an awesome extraction system and some major sound deadening to be bearable for long.

Lets do this!

Chrislong 20-09-2010 03:40 PM

No, not my return, just me playing :) on a shoestring.

Nitro indoors is stinky, that'd put me off. Electric 8th defo though. Thats what id be interested in.

PTRU 20-09-2010 04:04 PM

good luck woody as you say if you build it they will come.
at that size you could run on road track as well.

Do not underestimate the council tax. building that size around £30,000k a year. with CASC around 5,000 ayear water rates which will be on meter???? you do use a fare amount for a clay track and electric. running 7 days / evnings with shop and cafe you would not break even on that rent. Trust me on that one have looked into this in great depth. if you need any infomation please contact me.

Why did Proline Dirt Arena close?

birdy 20-09-2010 09:19 PM

I am sure we would pay £15 to £20 to race indoors, Extract system can easy be sorted.

shanks 21-09-2010 07:34 AM

Build it

If you build it they will come - quite right stu!

Tbh may be better to look into building it anyway rather than renting - asset etc

I can get the land and build it

i have been inside this warehouse. it is massive. you could have a 1/5th track a 1/8th track 1/10th track a micro track and even a touring car track and a drag strip if ya wanted and still have space for pitting.....it really is huge
not to mention the 2 levels of office that are quite big enough to run a carpet track upstairs and a shop in.
this really would be THE place to race in thw nw if it was running.
the unit is quite seperate from any one it might annoy with noise. its got good parking and easy access. ventilation would be easy for them dirty nitros to run
even the 2 stroke 5ths....why stop at 8th and 10th ...why stop at one track

massive unit with massive potential..good work woody
