Come on then ...spill.

k3rm1tt 21-09-2010 02:23 PM

Assume its something along the lines of Northern Off Road Association. Either that or you just ordered a mail order bride lol!

Mr Eccleston 21-09-2010 08:20 PM

Well just to confirm it's not a mail order bride.

It is the Northern Off Road Arena

Here's a picture

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...03428&t=h&z=18

(Track will be top left corner of field)

It is centrally located in Scotland, so far here is what has been organised:

Astro turf sourced
Track markers sourced

In planning
Sharp sand - anyone with contacts £20 per tonne
1st Container - awaiting price
2nd container - trying to source
Metal to build rostrum frame/steps - awaiting feedback
Insurance - awaiting quote
tent pegs for holding track down - got prices
toilets - being investigated

Require
Fencing - both farm (120 meter) type and 6 foot (20 meter)
track perimeter fencing
Type 1 for car park £10 per tonne
JCB
Mini digger
Lorry with hiab to move astro and containers
Lots of volunteers
A committee to run the club - step forward those that are interested
members - already have a list of those that said they would commit, always need more
racers - start putting the word about, 1/10th electric 2wd & 4wd, nitro 2wd&4wd, truggies, bikes

Anyone think of anything I've missed

Vision
To build this over the winter and be using regular in 2011

Some things to consider when designing/sculpting the track.
  • stoneless Top soil as cushioning between any clay and the astro
  • drainage considerations
  • ensuring race control is at the hub of the complex (track one side, pits the other)

Mr Eccleston 22-09-2010 07:16 AM

We have good drainage soil approx 200yds away we intend to bring over, either the JCB is required, or hopefully the land owner will help.

The basic ground is fairly good drainage wise already, but agree we can look at adding drainage underneath at the start.

Pitting will be around the track, and car park will be to the right, at the moment, we really need to spend some time at the venue with tape measure etc and plan it out better. Thinking at the moment is for those that have an interest in helping to visit after round 1 of the SCC.

k3rm1tt 22-09-2010 07:45 AM

Well I was pretty close lol. And the plan is to race what exactly? 1/10th, 1/8th, 5th scale?? C'mon dig the dirt!

Mr Eccleston 22-09-2010 08:22 AM

You were close, good guess or inside information.

I've listed above in the "required" section what we're looking to race, really aimed at the 1/10th class as that is what the track will be designed for.

From what we learnt racing at CSOR it's hard to build a track for different scales. We will have to see what people bring along because at the end of the day we want racers more than spectators (we want spectators as well tho')

rowanp25 22-09-2010 09:18 AM

I totally understand you gotta set a track for whats run but as csor already cater for 8th and then theres west coast who are for the 5ths it may be an idea to cater better for the 10ths and as the recent champs seemed to show, there is a growing interest in the scale all it needs is a few more clubs to fully cater for it.

KennyClark 22-09-2010 09:39 AM

This looks promising.

k3rm1tt 22-09-2010 10:57 AM

And what days is the racing planned for weekly club events?

Mr Eccleston 22-09-2010 11:14 AM

Race days will be Sunday afternoons.

Practice days (for members) will be most other days, we may do a couple of mid week meetings if demand is there, but only during the summer.

Dave77 23-09-2010 11:36 AM

Great stuff, looks exciting and promising.

I have family down in Glenrothes so a great potential location for me to be able to support by being a member and racing as much as possible.

David.

superdoug 29-09-2010 03:09 PM

This is a very exciting development. I'm looking forward to racing there. I am an electrician, if I can be of assistance.

Mr Eccleston 29-09-2010 05:00 PM

If anyone can actively help we are meeting at the venue immediately after the SCC Round 1 finishes. This should be just before 6pm, allow 10 minutes to get to the track. If you are racing at Round 1 just see me on the day, if you can't make but are interested in seeing what we plan then meet at Kirkcaldy High School at some point towards the end of the racing, we will then head down to the track.

Looking at the weather forecast it looks like rain all day Sunday all over the country, so come prepared (don't worry we will be dry for the racing).

What we do need urgently is someone with a lorry with a hiab, pm me if you can help. Basically moving a container and astro turf from Dunfermline/Lochgelly to Cardenden. This will hopefully be done towards the end of October during the week.

Rodrego 05-10-2010 08:50 PM

You can count me in as a volunteer and potentially a committee member. However, maybe I should get back to racing first and see how things go...!

Anyhow, I'd love to be involved and help make this project happen and work well.

Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be another Townhill!!

Good work Bernie!
