Assoc wheels on RB5
 

Hi guys

Posted a thread a bit ago with the idea of putting AE whhels on RB5. Got an X6 looked at the front steering blocks and with drilling out the blocks using AE front axles, blocks and wheel bearings they will fit no worries. The only thing is that where the tie arms connect to the blocks they are about 4-5 mm smaller/closer to the axle, will this effect the front geometry to much? As thinking of putting the blocks on my RB5 and selling the X6. Am i do the right thing selling the X6 and moving the big red k any help or advice is most apprecited also the idea of the frony bllocks etc

I'd say just use the Kyosho wheels, best quality around and no more expensive than any other really.

When I first came over to the big K in 07 I looked at doing something similar and came to the conclusion it wasn't worth it for the follwoing reasons ...

1) bearings in the hub as per RB5 is a definite improvement over in the wheel when it comes to slop and fast wheel changes.
2) you would loose the ability to change the front axle width by doing it
3) you would have non standard parts which would always break when you had no oppertunity to make some more
4) the effect of running B4 steering knuckles would be really significant (in a bad way) on the RB5s handling
5) to fit B4 axles into the RB5 hubs it would be material on (ie make inserts) which would then give location / security issues over time.

How many front wheels do you need for a 2wd anyway (set of yellows, set of greens, set of BB spikes, set of minipins if you run on carpet and 1 spare set for fresh tires should the day demand it)????

As for should you come to the big red K, hell yeah! I can honestly say I haven't been as impressed with a 2wd car as I am the RB5 since I started racing back in the mid 80s. The 4wd (FS/FS2) is even better than that!!

If you miss the mid motored 2wd then there is about to be another option for the RB5 in a few weeks and Fab's MCS is proving quite popular too.

Thanks for the advice guys will get rid of the X6 and concentrate on the RB5. Where is the best place for getting rims,springs spares and also a new shell for it as think i might need some for it. Havent raced myself for around 10 years last time was with a X10 in the 90's.:thumbsup:

JE spares are very good for Kyosho stuff mate, let them know I sent you along :)

Will name you when i get intouch with them for spares etc. When have first run with car will prob be asking for lots of help as not the normal car compared to a AE xfactory etc. Thanks for the offer.:thumbsup:

No not the "normal" car at all, quite exceptional in fact!!

Car is VERY responsive to set-up so you should be able to get it perfect for you no matter what you want ... also means you can get it a long way off if you head down the wrong path for too long.
