how much better are lipo over nimh
currently running some matched nosram 4600 saddles in my car with a nosram matrix istc esc and a 4.5 turn nosram pure brushless.
how much extra runtime and power am i likely to get switching over to say 5900mah 2s lipo with a 40c discharge rate? where we race its mostly long straights and the battery jsut lasts 5 mins if im carefull with the fun trigger. thanks in advance |
Runtime will be significantly better as they don't waste energy by getting hot. The main improvement is the ease of use - do a race and stick them back on charge again. Obviously use a suitable lipo charger.

Not only will they last longer but you dont get the drop off like you do with nimh we are using them in 1/12 but only 1cell where the buggies have 2cells with the new advancing esc the 10.5 pro stocks are only about 1 to about 500 of a second off the modified pace.
After use make sure that they have a storage charge put back in them dont run them till the car stops if the car slows stop at once o:thumbdown:r damage will occur make sure that you set the lipo cut off on the esc only charge at 1c i.e a 5600 cell is to be charged at 5.6 amps a 4300 cell would be charged at 4.3 amps if you buy high capacity cells make sure that your charger will charge that high and dont forget that cells are getting better and higher capacity all the time. Less hassle nimh are past it |
my esc has a 3 volt cut off set on it so its lipo compatiable.
i was looking at somthing like these (seem to be a good price) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=280560070805 or would i be better off getting a set with a higher discharge c (like 40c-50c?) |
I've often wondered about how the manufacturers label LiPo's. My understanding is that the 30c corresponds to the maximum burst current available. In this case the 'c' rating is the same as for charging, where 1c is the capacity of the pack. If this is correct then the 6200 mAh Lipo should be able to provide 186 A at 7.4 V, which is 1.38 kW.
If labelled correctly a 6200 mAh 30c pack should be able to provide the same burst current as a 3700 mAh 50c pack or 4700 mAh 40c pack. Ben |
thanks ben. so a 45c 6000mah pack will basicaly be the daddys dongles then? lol.
ran the car today and the nimh jsut wont cut it when there is loads of grip on the clay. they loose their punch after 2 mins and a min later jsut fall flat and im left stranded. |
