How to stop split in shell growing?

Can anyone share tips on how to stop splits in a boyshell growing?

I've patched up an old shell with Duratrax tape and shoe goo.

I heard you could also drill a hole at the end of the split so there's no sharp edges for the crack to propogate along. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks. I've got an old Schumacher reamer but it's a bit blunt. They're expensive... can I order just the tip online anywhere?

you can get replacement tips for reamers buddy but depends on the make shuey used to sell them but not sure if they do any more ,,,,, i just use a .05 drill bit to make the smallest hole then shoe glue it after too hope that helps

Simple cheap and quick way is to get an old bike spoke or piece of wire similar diameter heat it over a flame and poke it through at end of crack then use the goo.

Clever, thanks.

if you want a little strength to the repair, place some plasterboarding drylining tape over the crack first, then shoe goo.

The best answer though, is when you cut the shell out, leave no nicks or sharp cuts on the shell, thats where the splits usually start.

Is it the hearse that's split?, if so, use the opportunity to buy a proper shell (and a reamer at the same time) you tight git :p:p
With all the money you've spent on that "Pro-CAT" you must be able to afford a decent shell :woot::woot:

Hi smartalec, nice to hear from you. I'm sorry you don't like my vintage shell. It's my fault really, I should have listened to you when you repeatedly pointed it out at Stotfold. I will of course change it immediately so it doesn't get in the way of our budding friendship. I'm completely new to this so thanks for pointing out the error of my ways... can you help me decide what else to spend my money on?

Hey, let's park next to each other next time!
