Buggy to run competitively at Wakefield ?
 

I went over to the new Wakefield track today, and really fancy getting an 8th buggy to run.
Ive read the previous 'which buggy' posts, so here's another !

ideally I'd get an RC8 after seeing one in the flesh. Thing is I don't have that kind of cash, and I know NOTHING about nitro. I've run 10th electric off road for decades, so can drive pretty competitively, so I'm wondering will any of the RTR kits be any good. Some look like super value ?

Any standout recommendations for a Nitro Newbee ? I like the idea of RTR as I get everything o need in one hit, although I like the idea of building the kit too, its the whole engine / setup stuff that scares me and I guess there's plenty of help with all that in an RTR kit ?
lastly, what are the engines like in the RTR kits ? What do I need to be on the pace ?

The only rtr that is fully competitive out the box is the losi 2.0 rtr IMO.

Just checked it out, good sales vid on YouTube, and it looks well nice, shame it comes with a wheel tx though !

For around £450 could I get better if I bought the a car / engine etc separately ? The losi does look like very good value though considering all you get.... Very tempted.

buy second hand mate there will be loads selling with the winter months coming

I agree with the buy second hand method.

I bought a hyper 7 rtr for £200.00 ish and to press have spent a fortune upgrading it when i couldhave acheived what i have now buying a second hand losi or mugen. so i now have a lot of money in a car that is no where near the standard of the mugen etc.

And to top it all off i'm still a rubish driver.

HPI Pulse Buggy

It has a 28 size engine but that makes it close power to the top 21 engines. Perfect for club racing as it comes with metal gear steering servo and the chassis is as good as if not better than most others for reliability and handling!

Not checked the thread for a few days, anyway, I bought an Associated RC8B, as I wasn't too keen on the look of the Losi. Also, I like to build my own cars !

Ran it at Wakefield practise evening tonight and it was spot on all things considered, so I'm very happy.

I know from years of 10th electric that budget gear needs upgrading quickly, so I figured, bite the bullet and buy a decent kit from the off. Quality of the RC8B kit is totally top drawer, don't think I'll need any 'upgrades' for it any time soon !

sorry to hijack but can you tell or PM me details for the wakefield track please? i'd love to visit as i've never been to a racetrack ever...
