Two questions for the painting gods.....
I have just picked up an old Tamiya Blackfoot for my daughter, Shes only 15 months but I'm going to spray up a shelfer for her so it can sit in her room (Next to her Tamiya mini!) until the day she wants to play with it, Then we'll put a battered shell on......
My questions are 1, If I use faskolor paints on the ABS type bodies are there any problems or drawbacks, Such as flatting down reacting with laquers or just lack of shine. 2, Can i use the lexan chromes, such as the RCS chrome to re-paint the brightwork, and again any issues with laquers I want to use waterbased paints on this thats why I'm asking. any help or pointers would be welcomed. |
Hi,
Faskolor won't really work on the ABS as it gives a flat/matt finish. Solvent laquers may attack the paint. Look around for Createx AutoAir paints. These will be better for the ABS shell as they are the same as what people use to paint motorbike helmets. They do a whole range of Clearcotes too, to get a glossy finish. Not too sure about the chrome. i've only used it on lexan. Alclad do a chrome for ABS type work, but not sure if it loses its mirror effect once its finished with a clearcote. it shouldn't do providing its the reight kind of clearcote. Mr Miller will be able to tell you more as he is more into that kind of work. :) |
being faskolor and createx are both waterbased and basically the same, ive cleared over createx with a 2k clear no problem.
chromes will be dulled by the clear so need a wterbased clear to go between them. |
