Which 4WD??

Hi all.

Been out of the game for a while and now getting back in and looking to start regionals next season, get a license and then get back into Nationals.

Trying to decide on a 4WD (2wd sorted) like the look of them durangos also liking the preds too.. Dunno really just wondered whats competative and a pretty good all rounder and don't break too easy!

Any advise would be dope!!

Why not get a Tamiya TRF511? If was good enough in the hands of Lee Martin to take home the national championship in record time, so the speed is there.

And for the rest of us, it's a stunning looking car that is excellent to work on. ;)

you cant go wrong with schumacher cat, durango or kyosho. I would stay away from tamiya 511 because its been discontinued.

you've got no idea.......what about the xx4? that was discontinued but loads of people ran that. the 511 is the best car out there, certainly better than any cat. trf always release a limited amount of kits. don't worry there's the euro edition and the we to be released yet:lol:

Some guys like blonds others like brunets....its all a matter of taste at this level.

Tamiyausa.com has the nasty habit och calling a product "discontinued" they they are out of stock... Several Tamiya kits and parts that have been labeled discontinued by Tamiyausa eventually "go back in production".

In my book a Tamiya is discontinued when the Japanese say it is. Even so - still no problems finding parts the the TRF501X.

thanks for the info..

Must say I am swaying toward the direct drive 4wd's with todays powers of lipos and brushless motors makes more sense.

The tamiya looks tempting but had a sniff for parts and they don't seem that readly available.

My best advice is to try and test out some cars you like the look of.

It's all well people telling you "Oh yeah such a person piloted such a car to victory on such a championship" but to you that means naff all as they'll be able to do good with any car.

Try and get to a local club or two and see if you can have a go of some various buggies.

A strong point to look for is spares availability for the chosen car, it's no good if you cant get spares either locally or quickly online as it can eventually lead to missed races e.t.c.

Going off points such as popularity, spares availability and what I've heard (or tried), these cars seem a good choice: Associated B44, Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 FS/2, Schumacher Cat SX/2. People will obviously argue with these choices, but the choices reflect the points of support, popularity and good critique.

take a look at the durango mate stay away from the cat schumacher are going down hill on quality but durango are top dogs at the mo spares are cheep and not so easy to break to be honest

Well I drive a B44, and its pretty good for the price...
The Durango, esp the 410R version does look very good for the money! Bomb proof fluid filled gear diffs look a nice option!

Take into account spares...etc.
I would go for:
B44
Durango
Cat SX1
...

If your in Telford West Mids and are coming to any of the events in the region just hunt me down and I'll be more than happy to let you have a go with my Lazer (ZX5-FS at the moment, soon to be FS2 spec although that is only a very small change on track) ... I am sure you'll be supprised how easy it is to drive.
