X11 - setting the gear mesh

Guys, I'm helping a friend finish the assembly of his X11.

The manual does not show how to set the gear mesh.

Any advise on how to do this? Pics?

Do I use 2x button head screws and washers, and move it a little at the time and test for fit?...

Advised gearing with a 10 turn? (I know it's not the best choice, but that's what we have)

you need to find out which holes on the motor plate allow you to fit the motor as low as possible to the chassis, whilst allowing the motor plate to be rotated sufficiently towards the spur gear. then you ensure the motor is straight in the motor clamp and tighten it up as much as you can.

trial and error play a big part in this, but once it is done you rarely need to remove it.

As Chris said, make sure the clamp screw is tight. Its a good idea to change the button head for a cap head so that you can do it up tighter without the worry of stripping the head.

As an additional note, you need to have the mesh close (but not so it makes any noise). It needs to be meshed correctly or you risk stripping a gear. As long as you do that you should have no issues.

I always say (after replacing with better screw) screw it as tight as possible and after that a little bit extra ;)
