TRF511 discontinued?

Seems that the 511 kit is sold out almost for 3 months now in all big stores (RCMART, Dinball, RC model, Mushroom etc).

I've sent an email to ask when it will be back in stock and they said the kit was discontinued.

Maybe an updated version wil hit the markets soon :woot:

apparently the TRF's are made in a one off production run for team drivers. the drivers have there allocated number of kits from the production and then the rest go on sale to the public.

once they're gone, they're gone

DaveG28 04-08-2010 02:31 PM

They are available in the US ;)

is that the same for the 201?

mattybucks 04-08-2010 02:37 PM

what about the spares, are they still going to be available?

MikePimlott 04-08-2010 02:43 PM

From the source:

Hello,
Yes all of "TRF" series kits are limited edition items.
Normally Tamiya only makes this "TRF" kit in one shot or sometimes do a little amount of extras.
For example,TRF416X kit got sell out already but Tamiya announced they make it again this month.
Sometimes extras are for TRF Team Drivers but they only needs about 20 kits. But Tamiya can't make only 20 kits, need to make a few hundred of kits. Then Tamiya release rests to the market.
We have not heard Tamiya will make the TRF511 again so we just need to wait for new "TRF" 4WD buggy.
I suppose Tamiya will not do soon because they still had TRF511 recently.
And I have heard DB01R is sometimes better,so I think Tamiya will not make 4WD buggy with carbon plate chassis.

I Doubt the 201 will be limited no. as it's all moulded! They've probably just decided to keep with the TRF numbering convention..

Try here: http://www.racingfactory.fi/products...01XDurga-parts

..if worldwide is ok for you :)

DaveG28 04-08-2010 03:51 PM

Kits are in stock at Tamiyausa, until they run out. Parts are available, not discontinued, just try speedtech or champ and between them pretty much all parts are covered, especially champ as they order from Tam Japan!

Nige 04-08-2010 04:06 PM

Maybe if Tamiya win the next worlds they'll produce a TRF511 WE

Though if they don't make anymore, I feel sorry for those that run them as TRF511 specific spare parts will get even harder to get hold of.

I can get every single part (new, from store, not ebay etc) for my TRF501X, which is discontinued and replaced by 511, so I doubt that the newer 511 would have spares availability problems any time soon...

Well so far I have a pair of fron wishbones, shocks and shock towers. I'm just looking to get a spares package together. What do you recommend?

peetbee 05-08-2010 09:50 AM

I'd definitely add:
Rear wishbones
Spare front wheel hexes and spare drive pins.
spare hinge pin balls (can't remember the right name!)

and maybe the front and rear hubs and the front caster blocks.

the more spares you carry the less you need them :woot:

I'd recommend a belt too. The high traction front wishbones are a bit brittle so I carry 4 spares all the time. Same with the rear wishbones unless you want to use the stronger 501 items. I use 4mm front and rear towers. Yea I have spare wheel hex and pins too. They fall out easily when you change wheels. I held my drive pins in with a dab of anti wear grease. It's really sticky. Although I've never bent one on my 511 as the wishbones are the weak point, I also carry spare hinge pins. HTH

Yeah i would like to know where u get ur info from, talked to some Tamiya drivers and even they did not know the 511 was discontinued!
One more thing Marc Reinhard don't get 20kits of the 511!

ApexSpeed 05-08-2010 05:02 PM

It's really a shame that Tamiya builds and sells such stellar kits, yet feels the need to not continue production on anything high end once the initial small run is done. I guess they figure their loyal followers will just dump the discontinued model in favor of the latest and greatest.

That same marketing concept has also kept me from buying ANY high end Tamiya product over the years, as much as I have wanted to. I can't own a race car with a 6 month shelf-life, parts supply or not. Those eventually (and quickly) disappear, too.
