wonder if the body will fit an old one, holiday buggy was my first proper rc car, still have that car, body is wrecked though

body mounts seem totally different - and 2 huge holes in the bonnet????

Well, might be useful as a cheap way to obtain the spotlights for a rebuild of the original.

It will be a far superior car to the original in terms of handling (I bet it's even got a diff!) but there's no point in it for those of us old enough/sentimental to want want another.

I took one look at the new one and almost threw up :bored: How horrible is that ?!? Still, i can see why they used a current chassis with the old body - imagine using a old 380 silvercan again and breaking the front chassis suspension lugs all the time :lol:

When i raced one in '82 the first thing you had to do was get a modded 540 mount & motor in there with the aftermarket brass gears.. even then it was much slower than the RR's and Scorpions... but i won my first ever race with that car, which ive still got in my collection.... ahh great days :)

It is unashamedly odd, and maybe all the better for it. I'd be much more amused to see one of those chugging around a track than Tamiya's other starter buggies, which range from the plain ugly to the bland.

Good value too.

I know the classic Tamiya fanatics are annoyed that it is not a true re-release, and that the body has been modified... but my gut feeling is that Tamiya have realised that the true re-re's don't sell. There is a small community of nostalgists who will buy one, but most of them prefer to restore originals. There seem to be more Buggy Champs on shop shelves than anywhere else - £250 is a lot if money for a not very good car that is not identical to the original.

So... if the £85 Holiday buggy gets more people into (or back into) RC than a Rising Fighter or a Sand Viper does - great!

That's scaralidge! How can they take the car that got me into this game in '81 and defail it in such a horrible way. The original was a brilliant car, it single handedly created the 10th off-road scene. We would all be racing touring cars or something else just a gay if it wasn't for the Holiday Buggy.... 'takes off rose tinted glasses'..... :lol:

Wasn't convinced at first but it makes more sense when you actually see it. Although surely there was a way around the holes in the bonnet Tamiya!!

I like the holes in the bonnet :) I got mine for £65 without esc, arrive on Friday, built it (just added bearings and a cheap brushless) and its great! I have a pic on my blog in my sig. It made me feel like I was 10 again.

Speaking as someone who had the original, I'm glad it's a new version, as it's more in spirit with what the HB was back in the day.

thats a good price - especially if you were just going to throw the speedo anyway. We have one with a slightly damaged box which we have reduced to £74.09 INCLUDING ESC if anyone's interested?

Buy It before the temptation to build it takes over me!! :)
