Idle(r) Cougar

The Idler gear went on the Cougar last night at the club. hardly any teeth left on it. The layshaft gear looks like it is also badly worn (teeth rather rough). I cant see anything got into it as the cover was in place and the cap was on tight. The slipper was not at all tight. Are there any gears on the cougar which are not susceptible to problems?

N:(

having the exact same problem on the SX2

Now on my 3rd Idler gear replacement. Tried grease and everything.

Think there has been a bad batch or something. Why not give Schumacher a call etc?

I heard at the southport national that there was a bad batch ;) not the gears but the plastic they are made of. As said above give schumacher a call.

Seen it a few times....Not sure how the layshaft alloy gear gets so munched up though? I would def change them as a pair:confused:

Just thought over the sv trans prob and if it is any use the 5 that ive seen munch up went from being almost silent to whiney noisey within a couple of heats then crunch! So imo... even the slightest noise means check immediatly.:)

Thanks. I will change both else I think the idler will fail straight away. At £6 they are not cheap.

I replaced mine when I got the cat as they looked a bit tatty. the new ones look the same now after a few weekends racing lol. I got spares just in case they die

In fairness though it was rebuilt in mins then dropped on the start grid then won the A:woot:

i have found on mine, the layshaft bearings are abit sloppy (only one meeting from new) this could be why the mesh with the idler is bad and therefore wearing...
Do you think better quality bearings would help?
