Cat SX to a Durango

Just mulling the Durango at the moment and thinking about changing my SX for a 410R etc.

Have any of you driven both etc?

shanks 28-07-2010 11:11 AM

driven the cat and owned the full house durango

now i run a lazer fs and in my opinion its better than both cat and durango

A fellow racer at our club runs a ZX FS2 and love is. Looked very good.

Guess its all about personal preference but ive driven a Lazer and for me it doesn't compare to the Durango.

Had my best results ever this year with my Rango, and given the fact the 'R' version is so cheap i would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The choice is yours!

Yep i run an FS2 - three or four of my pals run them as well.

Again my opinion but the overall engineering, materials and general quality of the car is better than everything else i have seen.

At Southpot regional sunday just gone the four of them i know had no issues whatsoever i.e no breakages or failures and that alone is worth something.

I would also say they are the easiest most forgiving car to drive i have come across - just changing to the FS has upped my results straight away.

Ryan from JE Spares recently got one and ran it for the first time at Southport and did very well with it and he's predominantly a 1/8th racer.

I know he was very happy with the way the car went and previoulsy he did run a Durnago DEX410.

At first glance the FS may look like other plastic based cars but when you get to look up close you can see the difference in materials and general engineering quality/fit.

My advise is to seriously consider one before making yr decision. I havent looked where you live at the moment but if yr down Bury track at all let me know - your more than welcome to have a drive of my car.

May also be worth talking to Ryan or Nick Cario (who's an avid Kyosho fan and knows probably all there is to know about the cars, uprgrades etc etc) to get their opinion.

Im suprised more people dont run them to be honest and it can only be becasue they havent had a close up look or tried one out.

Craig

Cant argue with your results pal and me being no-where near as good i cant honeslty say that the Lazer would suit a top level driver.

Then again people like Rich Cree (i actually bought mine off him) have done very well - i believe he got 4th in Petit RC with the Lazer so i assumme they must be good enough...

Let you know in a weeks time after i've built my 410/2010 spec (can't wait) to quote lee farrer "It's the SEX" I loved my SX but this is the car i originally wanted (serpent day's) and i'm about to get it hopefully tomorrow :thumbsup::thumbsup: But as craig has said it's down to your own personal preference at the end of the day, i just hope the 410 lives up to my expectations.

I'm not doing anything, with the wedding no chance now of new car and of course new LIPOs. Had another invoice this afternoon.

After the weekend, I just think I'm crap with the SX. Not the car, me :(

been going ok, but I just don't make progress.

mikeyscott 28-07-2010 05:27 PM

Look at my results.

They are crap!

Looking at yr fastest realtive to others and then your average it appears you had a few crashes?

A Lazer FS will help you stop this significantly - i know the SX is a twitchy car to drive as are Durnago's - which for an intermediate means more crashes...

Correct I'm never the fastest, but I can often get consistent, just never together :(

I did crash, which I shouldn't have done over the meeting. As they say drove like a fool at times (getting used to a 6.5 over a 7.5 V3)

I like my SX, but I'm just not good enough to give it justice

mw02veg 28-07-2010 08:39 PM

so a durango will be better for you? alot of wonga to find out! they are alot more aggressive on the power having the gear diffs. if u want an easy car to drive yokomo would be your best bet imo

Hi,

Yeah tell me about it. Looking around all are mega money. Time for a reality check.

telboy 28-07-2010 09:01 PM

I recently considered moving from the DEX to the SX2. But after some help from Adam and the lads, and a bit of fiddling with the setup, I now have a DEX that is just about getting there (for me). I had the full fat version but have now gone to the R, and I think it suits me better than the full fat DEX. Wether that is a 'new car' thing I don't know, but to be honest, my setup now is getting closer and closer to the original DEX and is a lot less aggressive on the throttle than it originally was. So I have decided to stick with the Durango.

I have driven a CAT and obviously there is a bit more give in the drive train upon acceleration with the ball diffs and the belts, but I have countered this by going up to a 7.5 from a 6.5, and its much easier to drive and more consistent...and believ me, I crash a lot....way too much, but all the help has done the world of good.

It is well worth considering, and they're as strong as... a very strong thing!! I've yet to see a DEX break when having a collision with another car. Its always been the other thats come off worse.

Agrees durango's are more aggresive

bmax's are easier to drive though the 5 or 6 I know well always break usually centre bearings cease up

lazer can easily be set up to be very neutral so dead easy to
drive

forgot to mention my lazer did actually snap a shock rod in the c final at southport regional - however I still won the race with only three shocks - big up the lazer !!!

It is my first year in off road, in Regionals i was in the bottom finals, so as you guessed, i'm not a top driver! lol i was running the Cyber 10b and recently changed to the DEX410. At the regional meeting at Broxtowe, first time i had ran the car, I qualified 5th in the 'B' Final :woot:

The car gets good results and i would highly recommend one to anybody!
I don't know if it is just me, but I think you can feel/read more into what the car is/going to do! where as with the Cyber i couldn't get any feel for the car at all.

I ran the Cat SX as soon as it came out but just did not seem to get on with it no matter I did with the setup. With the DEX410 I did better straight away and I find that the heavy chassis makes the cars suspension work better than lighter cars. It is better to tone down the motor I am using a 6.5 at the moment but only due to my 7.5 giving up on me :( I tried different cars in 8th nitro as I though I was missing out on something, before I had issues with money at work, and I was off pace with each one so I got my Losi 8ight 1.0B out of the shed where it had been for a year and rebuilt the shocks and popped it on the track and was back on the pace again.

You'll have to return to TORCH with it for the next all day meeting ;)

I've just gone from a 7.5 v3 to a 6.5 v3 in my SX

Well after running the FS today and then trying a 410R Durango it may be the case that the FS I have is put up for sale....

What upgrades are a must on the 410R?
