Southport Setup

My CR2 was perfect in Southport except for its behaviour on the lumpy section after the tarmac. Wasn't happy with the damper setup and couldn't find the right configuration.

How could I have improved this?

I was using the following;
Front - black spring, red piston, 32.5wt Losi oil, AC tower, middle hole on tower and wishbone, front axles moved forward, Rudebits thin under servo weight, rudebits front chassis side weights, VLA long

Rear - pink spring, red piston, 30wt assoc. oil, hole 3 on tower, middle on xxx-cr wishbone, 2 deg antisquat, 70g under Lipos, Rudebits T-piece, 1 degree hubs (4deg total) spaced forward, VLA long

Does anyone know what Danny McGee's setup was - his car looked awesome!

Well my car was set up like this, and flew through there, it is a lot about the line you take though....

Front -
Green spring
Red GHEA piston
30wt Losi oil
AC tower middle hole
Middle hole on wishbone
Front caster blocks moved forward 1 wheelbase shim
lead under servo weight, 15g in bulkhead
VLA short

Rear -
Pink spring
Red GHEA piston
27 1/2 wt Losi oil
Out 1 hole on tower
Extra inner hole drilled on BK2 wishbones
Old XXX rear pivot block (well actually the ali one off the CR Truck)
~1/2 deg antisquat
No lead under Lipos
Rudebits T-piece
CR degree hubs
Short wheelbase
VLA short

For a start on the kit CR back end I'd say your shocks are too hard and out to far on the wishbones. I only ever used the inner hole on the wishbones or an extra inner hole I drilled.

Is that any help?

Yes that is helpful and I'll stick the old XXX rear end on for this weekend and give it a go. Many thanks

Take a look at the thread in here about CR2 mods, explains it all :)

What's the weight of your batteries ?

This is imo an often overlooked setup item that is seldom mentioned, as well as the so important F/R weight distribution.
Just like the knowledge of the total weight, I think it's useless to copy a setup if you don't know all these interesting parameters!

Thx,
Kurt

Yours looked the dogs on Saturday G.

Northy 21-07-2010 09:49 AM

Thanks Spencer :)

OK, the weight of my lipos is: 258.3g

I can do corner weight measurement tonight if you would like :)

Another thing you really should try from Northys setup is the Ghea pistons, they can really transform the car!

I would agree with Graham, rear shocks on the middle hole are crap on the back section and as you come off the section too. I have tried the old and cr rear end and the old is better at the back of the track. 32.5 is a little too soft when the track has dryied out.

pistons

i am interested in getting some geah pistons . but not sure what type i need. i am running a yokomo bmax. so what would be cool for a average 4wd buggy with 30 wt oil.
i no its a bit off topic but i am racing south port this sun so its kinda connected
thanks guys

My setup for the national was.

front:
black spring, red piston, 37.5, DM front tower, basically holes in between the current ones, outside hole on that, outside hole on wishbone, 2-B camber link, long vla, thin rude bits plate under servo

rear, pink spring with paint removed, 32.5 oil, red piston, inside hole on tower, short wheel base, 3rd hole on top of camber link on the tower from the inside. Old style rear end, the old wishbones too with an extra hole drill on the inside. 1 degree rear hubs, middle hole on the hub, 5 degree antisquat.

Rude bits, under lipo plate, t plate.

Think that was about it to be honest. Oh losi hard foams all round too. give a little more steering.

hope that it will help

Hi,

Can you just confirm 5 degrees or 0.5 degrees antisquat?

Cheers,

Ian

Either:

Yellow minispike rears
Yellow stagger or worn slim minispike fronts

or

BB Green rears
Schu Slim minispike fronts

It's a bit personal preference between liking the car direct and on edge a little (yellows) and feeling safer but just as quick (greens).

Always a BIG insert, P-Dub KWF or Mr "O" type medium.

Simples. :D
