Historical question

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know why losi did change the rear axle of the bk2 back to the old one (gearbox etc.).

Thanks!

My understanding was that the BK2 rear end brought the motor forward a little resulting in a shorter car. This meant it had a little less forward traction as the front/rear weight balance changed. I think this meant it had less stability but pretty much the same pendular effect and didn't work so well.

Maybe now, as brushless motors are heavier than brushed, it might be worth trying it again?

Just a thought, as I have never run one. Hopefully someone a little better at the whole racing thing than me can say something a little more detailed

Ben

I can't remember exactly, it was a good while ago...

but from what I can remember, the diff gear was smaller and the diff sat too low down, and I seem to remember the outdrives being either longer or shorter than the original XXX box (and driveshafts to match).

all of which lead to a car that only even wanted to go straight when you got on the power. it often didn't matter if you were steering left or right when on-power as it would go straight anyway :woot:

the cynic in me will also say that when Losi were searching for a 'new' car the development of it tested the old XXX box with some XX bits and it went OK so there is a massive saving on tooling right there.

BK2 was wider diff, shorter driveshafts, major on-power understeer.
