TRF/501 Shocks on a Durga - What Oil?
 

Just fitted the TRF shocks on my Durga :thumbsup:, but does anyone know what oil comes with them? And, what oil(s) would you suggest for the Silverstone track? (astro).

The stock oil in the TRF shock kit is very soft, similar to 15W-20W.. Tamiya uses a different gauge called centistokes to classify their oil.. Centistokes cannot always be perfectly converted to existing (W)eight standards, but there are some charts available that do a pretty good job of matching up the closest oil types.

I only race on outdoor and indoor dirt tracks.. I don't think I would be the best person to recommend an oil and spring setting for astro.. All I know is that my car handled much better on hard dirt tracks when I switched to 30W-40W oils and harder springs (I used the Team Associated spring kit).

I would try .2mm pistons and 35wt up front and .3mm 30wt in the rear

The easy way to do this:

Build the shocks as per the instructions, pistons etc.

Oil weights for the springs supplied.

I use associated oil, always have

Astro: nimh's > front 35wt, rear 30wt.

Astro: lipo > front 30 wt, rear 20wt.

Grass: nimh's > front 40wt, rear 30wt.

Grass: lipo > front 35 wt, rear 30wt.

Using the springs supplied with the shocks these oil weight combinations have always worked for me on the DB01 chassis in conjunction with the differing weights of nimh's and lipo.

Not saying they will work for everybody.
