still deciding on 2nd car (4wd)

I'm having trouble working out which car to get. Budget is around £200 for the kit with up to £50 for spare parts or upgrades.
stuff i'm looking at includes
cougar sv
ansmann x4 pro
hpi cyber 10B
lazer zx-5

I know its a buyers market for 2nd hand right now, but I'd rather have new. any thoughts?

Stu's new X4-Pro did look very nice on Sunday, pretty well planted from the off, and I'm sure Stu's going to put a lot of work into it as well. Given how similar it is to a Bmax I can't see it being a bad car, but only time will tell how tough it is.
Plus with Stu racing one you know that setup and spare support will be available both trackside and at JE Spares!

The Lazer is very popular at our club, but for £200 you won't be getting the latest FS or FS2 versions in which case don't bother. The Readyset version at £160 is virtually a totally different car and nowhere near as good.

I don't know anyone with a Cyber 10B, but its based on the D4, which Andy now has. Chris and I sold our D4's, mostly because of how annoying HPI spares backup is. Until they sort that out I'd avoid.

The Cougar is a 2wd. Its very popular right now, but mostly because its new.

You've missed the Yokomo Bmax, which can be had in base form for £180. Thats the non-champ pack version, with plastic shocks. Many of the clubs Bmaxes started in this form, and had alloy shocks added later.

oops meant cat sx2 (s1 spec) wasnt sure about the belts tho, thought the shaft driven stuff was better.

**EDIT** just looked at the yokomo champ version, very nice and could stretch to that

Driven belts and shafts, each has pros and cons. Generally shafts are a little more robust, but Schumacher belts are very study.

SX2 S1 costs £250 though. For which money you could get a B44 or a Bmax Champ pack, both of which I'd say are better. Also the original SX's that JE Spares are selling for £249 would be better than the S1 version of the SX2. The Cat's big plus is that it takes stick packs, unlike the majority of the shaft drives.

The Lazer FS (not FS2) and Durango DEX410R are both under £300 as well.

Got to be a b44 or bmax both very good straight from the box with standard kit set ups. Cats need a lot of messing with got rid of mine for a b44 and never looked back.

Increase the budget at abit and buy a Durango 410R built like a tank so you won't need to many spares and it will be great straight out of the box so won't need any upgrade parts spares are cheap aswell if you do manage to break it
