Are these race legal?
Saw these on ebay, interesting. I doubt they are race legal and they would push the motor over quite a bit shifting weight and making it a bit vulnerable to damage.
I vaguely remember that there was a car in the 80's with this kind of thing as standard. |
I don't think they are legal, looking at the size of the gears a modern brushless system would probably rip the gears apart too :wtf:
|
Yeah I don't think they would stand up to a powerful motor - but I've never heard of a rule against them myself and can't see anything wrong with it.
|
I think there is a rule on changeable ratio's, if I remember rightly, need to dig out my BRCA handbook.
Although, for entertainment value id like to try one, and see how long it takes for me to melt it. |
the old mini mustang had an option for a 2 speed system

the mini mustang and a couple of others had 2 speeds that after a while i think they banned the 2 speeds

A multiple speed transmission is illegal in TC's but there is no mention of it in the 1.10th off road section
These 'boxes can handle quite a lot of power, I know of one in a zx5 with a high power brushless which hit 70mph! |
2 speed transmissions are perfectly legal in off road, whether it gives an advantage in off road is another matter. The PB Mustangs ran with 2 speeds and they still got beat by the CAT.
They are banned in touring cars, highly likely because when they formulated the rules HPI had a 2 speed gearbox on the RS4 and it was likely that every manufacturer would need to make a gearbox for their cars. |
One of these could be fun for speed runs in my pro-ten, gear it way up higher and see what sorta speeds i can hit!
