2.4 Stick set - KO Esprit III or RC-Code
 

Looking to get a new 2.4 set to upgrade from my KO Type R. I fancied upgrading the KO to 2.4 but it's quite expensive to do all considered.

Is the RC-Code set any good for £84 notes ? What will I miss out on ?

The main things I like on my current KO set are the two top dials for steering travel and amount of brake as it's super easy to change. A also like the steering and throttle curves. The RC-Code set looks like it doesn't have anything as simple as this ?

Also, anyone who has an RC-Code, how do they feel compared with the KO set.

It feels very china, but it works and is easy to use.
It probably won't last for 10years like KO's do.

The diffrence between a cheap tranny and an exspensive one is miles apart.. Get the KO....

I spoke to a bloke last weekend at the oOple Invernational, and he had sold his KO because he thought the Core RC one felt better.

KO, is very expensive and feels cheap, the Code is cheap and feels cheap, they both do the same thing.... and both of reasonable quality, go figure!!

If you were going to spend that much on a KO system, I would suggest the Futaba.... far FAR better

It's whats inside that matters I changed from my sanwa gemini 2 to my KO and you can feel a massive diffrence, Everyone ive seen change from a cheap radio at our club to a more expensive one there driving improves masively. IMO its down to the KO or the futaba. I chose my KO because i dont find the futaba comfirtable ive got reasonably big hands and the futaba feels IMO like im holding a breeze block.

The other issue with KO, is if you go the 2.4GHz route, you can either buy the KO version and have expensive receivers, or by the Spektrum Module, which don't fit well...

They all got their plus points, and the all got their drawbacks, the only thing you can do, it ask and try them and go from there, I have tried all three and stick with my Futaba... :)

The KO modules done fit that well either you just need to bend the pins a touch...

so you buy a £300+ radio, and have to bend the pins?? FFS thats like buying a tv and having to tape the Scart lead in, so it got a good connection...

I have the KO and no pin bending needed on mine for the spekky module to work?
I agree though, they don't feel like they are worth the money but I find it more comfortable and think that makes more difference to your driving than the brand!
See if you can try holding a few transmitters before you buy.

(if I was looking to go 2.4 now I would consider the core rc too)

Which module do you mean for the KO ? I thought the Spectrum module for my KO Type R was the one that was installed by Helgar for £50 and cut a hole in the back of the tranny ?

Is there one now that slides in where the crystal module thing goes - that would be nice...

Also, if I went say KO or Futaba, can I not use the cheaper Spectrum receivers ?

The Esprit III uses the same module as the Wheel radio, so it goes in the back, not up it's bum, lol.

Spektrum receviers are not compatible with KO/Futaba modules, but you can buy the Spektrum modules for those radios.

Bloody hell, this is very confusing.....

So, ballpark, what would it cost to convert my KO Type R and then get a few receivers ?

Is the cost prohibitive, to the point i'd be better with the Core radio, or splash out on the new KO radio ?

Well it's the cost of the Spektrum stuff plus £50 for cost of conversions (which you can't go back on), or there are DIY guides, which involve stripping the Spektrum module down but then looks factory in the tranny.

WHilst I agree with both that you get what you pay for, you could try the CORE and if you didn't like it sell it on for a minor hit. Futaba also do a mid range one (3GR???).

I went from my Vantage to a 3VCS and love it, but the shape is an aquired taste and took me a while to get use to it. It does feel quality though, much more so that the KO.

Whichever you get, but a Lipo as not having to charge it for months at a time is ACE!

That Futaba is too many pennies for me mate. KO would be a stretch, but as I have a KO tranny now, i'm tempted. I'd want to see the Core one first I guess, as i'd be worried it would feel nasty for the cash.... might be wrong though.

Might hang on and try to pick up a 2nd hand one, or try and find a module for mine. I read the soldering guide and it doesn't look too bad. Could be costly though if I cock it up.

I just got a core it feels fine, dead easy to bind, got more adjustments than I'm ever likely to use, for example EPA, throttle curve, ABS, steering speed, throttle hold whatever that is, you can't go wrong for 84 quid:thumbsup: Although I have never used KO so can't comment on those:woot:

Dan, might want to check with the BRCA, re:lipo in your radio, I know the rule has changed recently

I noticed a marked improvement on the response times after i changed my Futaba 3vc to a Ko Esprit.
