brushed motor with LiFe.
 

Hi all, I've been reading the forum for a while but never posted. I just got into this wonderful hobby. I just got done building my first car, an Ansmann Mad Rat, and it was a learning experience to say the least :D.

Anyway, like everyone in this hobby, I'm thinking of upgrading some parts. :D
I'm pretty much set on getting som lifepo batteries, because of their safety/power combo.

i'm also thinking of changing out the motor, as the 28T motor the madrat comes with, isn't exactly a rocketship. However, I have absolutely zero clue of what these lower voltage lifepo's (6,6v) will do with a brushed motor. Should I be on the lookout for a certain type of motor that handles lower voltages well? avoid this combo alltogether? Change gearing?

I've been looking at the Team Orion Method 21T. Good choice? Mind you that my ESC can only handle up to 20T (it's an mtroniks RV20), and also I'm not planning on going brushless just yet, nor would I want to send a lot of money (max 40 euros) on a brushed motor. thanks :thumbsup:

i would get hold of a 27T pinion and try it with the kit motor it will speed it up allot but i think also a good 27 turn stock motor like a checkpoint or a trinaty would be a good bet gear that on a 26 pinion

I'd abandon the idea of liFe cells for a few years. Unless you plan to use them exclusively to bash with, then I'd get lipo instead - it's doubtful that a BRCA affiliated club will allow you to run liFe

LiFe cell are approved for BRCA Sanctioned events

Cells don't have to be on the BRCA list to be ok to run at a BRCA affiliated club.

Also, could you explain the benefits of using a 27T pinion with the stock motor? (Like I said, I'm a newbie :D).

it will give you more top end speed you will lose some acceleration but with that silver can its not like you had allot to begin with

Ok, thanks. Maybe I should just skip the brushed stuff altogether, and get an EZrun combo. Good idea?

Also, do you have any idea on what these 6,6v packs do to the overall power of the car. Should I gear up/down even more when using these?
