LRP SPX, does it require a fan with a 6.5t brushless?
I've got an LRP SPX running a speed passion 6.5t brushless motor, geared with 20t/78t.
At the club last night night, the temperature cut-off was cutting off power on the last lap of the race. I had a few people check and the drive train is smooth enough, and the gearing should be ok. I know the ESC can take down to a 5.5t, but I'm just wondering, to go down to a 6.5t, does it need fan? Would the installation of a fan reduce the temperature to a safe level during racing? |
A fan on the speedo would definitely stop it cutting out. Try one like this http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/MR-25FAN.html

was the esc definately over heating as i had this problem before and i had a dead lipo cell!

The 2nd suggestion though, might be a bit big as it looks like the ESC can only fit on a 25mm fan |
Try this one http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/MR-U25FAN.html
I run one of these in a micro and its taken lots of abuse and works very well. I did have a cheap one in before which lasted 2 meetings before it failed. |
The LRP SPX has an internal Temp-Check System, it tells you if the ESC has overheated or not.

Yeh I've checked the temperature and it defo cut out due to overheating.
