Rear shock tower X6 Sq.

:o. How much? What do people use if they break? £24.00 for a shock tower:thumbdown:

You're going to have to do something pretty special to break one of those! they are solid!

I suppose if they were made a bit weaker Chazz could get the price down as he would be able to order larger batches..

Talywain. My wing broke in the warm up lap and didnt jump properly after that, i landed right on the back end of the car and it snapped! Finished the race though and a pretty decent time.
I had a spare but didnt know that they were more expensive than a Ferrari to buy:(

To be fair Chris the circumstances you describe are pretty unique and as Kev has pointed out they are one of the very strongest towers on the market.

The AE carbon ones range from £13/18, Yokomo ones range from £15/22 and the Schumacher ones range from £15/17 per tower but all of them are between half to a third of the size of our rear tower on the Squared, plus our tower is 4mm thick and not 3mm like most other brands (which snap far easier), which does put the cost up hugely by being so much thicker.

The current UK RRP is £22.49, which most of our dealers sell if for (or less), the only time it went up to more was last year when the pound suffered badly with the exchange rates being as low as 1.3 ish against the dollar.

We did look at making it 3mm (like most other brands) but opted for the stonger and thicker 4mm and as a result sell very few at all as spare parts (the 3mm one we looked at was going to be £15.99) but the choice to have strength and have to replace very few (if any at all) in the life of the car ruled out this part ever being made...... (would you prefer to buy several at £15.99 or maybe the very odd one at £22.49?)

As far as being as expensive as a Ferrari....... not too sure they are "that" bad :D

Agreed with DMS, i'm not a good driver and had a few bad landing/crashes upside down, what broken was only the Front Shock Tower never the rear, even the wing can break but the wing mount still survived and was not even bended.

Hope that XFactory can make a front shock tower for it.

chris68nufc 26-04-2010 08:28 PM

Hadnt realised that they were as expensive as they are so thats why i posted it, i didnt complain that they werent strong, but just that mine had broke and they were expensive,FACT!

I wanted to find out if anybody used anything else or do people just run the XFactory one?

The Ferrarri bit was a joke,Chill:lol:

Darren

Am i right in thinking that when the wishbones on the rear changed to the flat universal type the shock tower had to change to suit the geometry but overall the old geo and the new are actually the same ?

If so, people who had the old X6 could as a get me through the day switch back to the old wisbones and tower if they broke and didnt have a spare trackside....then they could save some pennies to buy a new squared tower..

P.s mines had tons of abuse and its still solid - 4mm and a couple more quid far out weighs 3mm and more regular breakages IMO

Good Job

Darren Boyle 26-04-2010 10:12 PM

Hey Chris, we are chilled :)

Panch, yes if you run the old wishbones and old rear tower the geometry is the same, but you have to run them as a pair... not just one or the other.

If you use the original molded tower with the 4 gear tranny you have to add an additional 0.030 shim to the rear tranny mount screws. Chazz explains it here
