buy a shock stand there about a fiver fill with the piston at the bottom of the shock and move it upwards, not all the way up so its above the oil and allow all the air bubbles to escape takes about fifteen minutes.also bleed caps make a difference.:)

I fill the shock with the piston halfway up.
then pull the piston down.
then fill up 90% of the shock and work the piston up and down a couple of times never letting it break the surface.
top up and get them the same level (small dome on the top).
pop the tops on and check.

if they're the same great. if they're different try again :)

Where do you have the shaft while you screw the cap on?

I've read that the shaft position when you seal the shock (by putting the cap on or closing the bleed hole) is how you set the rebound

yeah that's right, depends on the amount of rebound you want. Suggest buliding the same shock a few times with different amounts of rebound until you get a feel for how much you want
