Chrome plated CAT wheels

I had these vintage wheels chrome plated by a local company and I was wondering is it safe to soak them in acetone to remove glued on tyres? I know chrome is supposed to be corrosion resistant but has anyone tried already? Thanks

Are they chrome plated as in metal? Or just chrome paint?

Chrome wheels

They're chrome plated on aluminium. The platers replied and said solvents (e.g. acetone) should probably be OK. They use cellulose thinners. I just wanted to get a second opinion (they cost a bit to plate as a one off)

So the wheels are metal, and the "chrome" is painted on? (cellulose thinners)

No they are chrome plated not painted (?) the thinners are for removing water stains etc after plating.
