Dark Impact vs. Keen Hawk

Hi guys,

I was thinking about buying either a Tamiya Dark Impact or a Keen Hawk. I was looking at towerhobbies.com and they have both in stock but the keen hawk is more expensive. I was looking at the descriptions and i didn't really see much of a difference. Is there something i'm missing or will i be fine if i go with the Dark Impact because it's cheaper. Right now i'm driving an old Kyosho buggy that the claim to have no knowledge about and i've beat the crap out of it and i figured that it's time for something new. Any advice on which buggy to go with?? Pro's Con's of each???

Thanks

they are exactly the same - different colour wheels and different shells is about all the differences there are. It just depends which shell style you like :).

hockeyhead019 05-07-2007 03:58 PM

thanks man but your tellin me that they're exactly the same, just with different shells. so that means that i dont' have to buy different parts for one than the other?

same parts yeah, I have both cars at home and they are identical. If you don't care about the looks then go for the cheapest. I prefer the keenhawk shell myself but the impact shell has a more serious 'racey' look

Thanks man i think that i'm leanin towards the dark impact cause it's cheaper but thanks for the info.

Here are some pics of my buggy.... i know that it's a Kyosho Ultima EB Sports but they claim to have no knowledge and nobody makes parts anymore......

So there it is.. the poor thing is finally starting to fall apart, as you can tell by me ghetto mods, the resister and speed control wiring.

DCM how much $ you want for your dark impact??

DCM 06-07-2007 04:15 PM

PM me, it might work out expensive in $$ though

annie_himself 06-07-2007 08:39 PM

Wow, I've never seen a MSC like that, never even seen one in person.

hockeyhead019 06-07-2007 10:30 PM

Well there it is my MSC which has decide to start actin screwy... i was racing the other day at my track and about half way through the qualifying lap it just died. i checked the batt and the motor and they were fine so the only thing left is the speed control. (i put the motor and batt in another car... my buddies.... and they worked fine with my radio system and everything... but MSC's don't live for ever you know.

It's actually an EP Ultima RB Racing Sports, one of a whole range of nitro and electric Ultima RBs which the latest Ultima RB5 is derived from. If you need a manual most of the manuals for the range (including the high spec Type-R versions) are here http://www.rcdocuments.com/index.php?page=28

Spares are certainly still available from Kyosho Europe, see here http://www.tamiyaparts.co.uk/tamiyaparts/tpx/kyosho.htm
Check the manuals for the part numbers, but Ultima RB specific part numbers begin K.RS The rotary speed controller is part number K.1833, although ditching it for an ESC would be better.

hockeyhead019 07-07-2007 07:24 PM

WOOOO.. thank you sooo much man you have no idea how long i've been lookin for some parts.... and yes i am working on an ESC but if i take the MSC out...(it sits on a whole intstalment) then i have to take the battery cover out but i'm sure i could figure something out. but again thanks a million for the info.

A little late reading this thread, but a magazine company over here did a part build electric 1/10 Subaru by BYMCO and it uses a direct copy of the Kyosho MSC in your buggy, which is by the way what my Kyosho Double Dare had fitted as stock, a similar arrangement in my NIkko Dandy Dash, but with clear cover

Neither the Dark Impact nor Keen Hawk come with an ESC or MSC, so you will still need to buy an ESC if you decide to get one of those buggies.
