What pinion?

After a couple of recommendations for a pinion.

RC10B4, Castle Mamba Max, 5700kv motor, 81T spur. What size pinion? I was thinking of about a 20 tooth pinion?

SC10, Novak EX Sport, LRP Stock Spec X11 10.5T, 87T spur. What size pinion?

Thinking of changing spur to a 84T and then using a 23 tooth pinion?

Mostly for indoor stuff with the occasional jaunt outdoors :)

Do you mean with the current 87 tooth or a 84 tooth spur?

Can't fit anything bigger than a 23 tooth pinion on the 87 tooth spur as there's no room to move the motor back any further!!:eh?:

I reckon a 81 tooth spur would be fine.

25/81 would be a good starting point for the B4, maybe start at 24, then go upto a 25 if temps are okay.

For the B4, 20T is a good starting point, but you might need to go lower to get it controlable. The 5700 KV is a lot of motor (actually closer to a 6.5T) for 2wd buggy. Much better suited to 4wd in my oppinion...

When I got my B4 last year, I was able to try a 5700Kv in it before buying a ESC/motor. It was way too much... So I settled for a 4600 Kv... Result? Properly geared my 4600 is just as fast as the 5700Kv, but much more controlable due to a more progressive throttle curve. So much much better (better lap times)... I'm using a 5700 in 4wd Open and it is wicked fast...

Hope this helps!

I'm running the X11 10.5 motor in my SC10, I've been using a 22 pinion with the 87 spur at Coventry, although lately I've been trying 22 / 84 though, just gives me a little more top end...

I'd say grab yourself a 21, 22 and 23 and experiment!

I found that you can only just squeeze a 23 pinion in there with a 87 spur in the SC10? I've ordered a 84 spur, so I'll try that on the SC10 with a 22 or 23 pinion.

As for the B4, indeed I'll be turning the Mamba punch control up to 80% and lowest timing I think to get it driveable. I'm cool with that as I bought the 5700kv with a view to using it in various kit.
