Control Tyre

After speaking to a few people about how long a set of tyre are lasting at the club, what do people think about having a control tyre like Schumacher blues which should have a longer life span.

Yeah i would agree, shumi pin blues , but may be on club championship nites, only cos some people use old tyres from worksop meetings.

chris68nufc 09-03-2010 09:14 PM

Pete, for people that havent ran at Seaham, do you mean that yellows arent lasting long enough but you get lots of grip or are you thinking blues just because they last longer due to them being harder.

For me, ive got loads of tyres from other events that will be ace for Seaham(apparently!) so buying Blues is a bit crap. Most people set their cars up using yellows so going to Blue would make setups change aswell.

Not a dig but just want some clarification?

Why have a control tyre? No point.

I use worn yellow mini pins and they are as good as out.

chris68nufc 09-03-2010 09:32 PM

Thats what i was unsure about?? If worn yellows are good then why change things? Who will that suit? Surely everybody has worn yellows of some type??

Unless T-Shirt Pete is opening a model shop??

Battle_axe 09-03-2010 09:46 PM

sorry to butt in how about rally blocks or maybe foams?

chris68nufc 09-03-2010 09:54 PM

Stop butting in;)

Rally blocks? Do they fit on 2.2" Wheels

Foams. What is a car like on landing not on down ramps with foams??

Come on Pete. What do u think?

tyred

at ribble vally they have enforced a controll tyre and it is awful. they allowed worn pins then banned em again. was alot of messing and they not as busy as the controll tyre was hard to set up and you could only use em at that club. i no i not local but i no of the fuss a strict trye rule can bring. thanks

I'm not bothered about a control tyre, it has been talked about by a few regulars, that a set of yellows last 2 meetings. So the idea was to move to a longer lasting tyres.

As for setup shouldn't it change for different clubs and tracks anyway.

Pete, buy in a load of yellow pins and yellow spikes and tell people to stop being tight!

Control tyre

Hello Pete

I don't think a control tyre is a good idea. As others have said just use what you have. If you want to run new tyres to give you the edge for a club night that up to you.

That 'edge' is what takes many to the extreme to improve their time.
One possibility to discourage the purchase & use of new tyres is to have a tyre rule that states the only new tyres allowed are 'blues' (or whatever). This then allows everyone to use up ANY old tyres in their box.
But how to police this? How about drivers themselves point out any NEW tyres on the grid, before a heat/final and race control's decision is final. If in doubt, take your tyres to Race Control for a decision before putting them on the car.
Too complicated? What do you think?

N7ELA 10-03-2010 11:40 AM

Well club nights are testing oportunities for me so if i want to try new tyres one night then i will and if i want to run worn tyres then i will. Simple as that... :p

chris68nufc 10-03-2010 09:37 PM

And...If my team mate does, then i will aswell!!

nobby 13-03-2010 02:16 PM

i think a tyre rule is pointless.
the reason clubs bring in a tyre rule is to bring the racing closer now that works for about a month until the top guys workout there new setups then it's back to square one.
it's all down to setup to make your tyres last just like in any form of motor sport.

chris68nufc 13-03-2010 06:51 PM

That was your first sensible post. Go Chris. Glad to have you back!

You doing Nationals this year?

i'm not running the b4 or b44 though neil i'v got some new toys:thumbsup:

if there's room and i'm working down there i might just see if i can get in to a national here and there

chrispattinson 17-03-2010 10:46 AM

I dont think a control tyre is a good idea.
Ive got boxes of old yellows to get through, it's like running free tyres at Seaham, as anything grips!
