gm120 profile and gearing problems

ive just fitted an gm 120 and a novak 10.5 which i fitted to my touring car and cooked the motor in two heats! dont get me wrong it was rapid lol but i had followed the advise of the person i bought the electrics from and ran a very simular overall gear ratio to what he had used and proved to be reliable. is it a programming issue or gearing as the speed alters the advance while driving??

The GM 120 is a nice bit of kit. However because of the flexibility that is offered in the programming firmware, its pretty easy to screw up a motor if you set it incorrectly. The majority of the parameters should not be played around with. In essence, if you dont know what it means, then leave it well alone.

What firmware do you have on the speedo ?

Some useful info is offfered on this thread .........

read in your speedo values, save the result as a .gda and post the text from it here. We can see if there was anything weird on it.

You have to be very very careful when dealing with any of the programable speedo's these days. It is very easy to put on a program that could kill the motor.

When someone asks me about programming a GM speedo, I always ask them if they want what i'm running? or if they want something that i'm fairly confident will be reliable. It is often the case that I know how the speedo is setup, and adjust driving styles to suit. So it could possibly happen that if I gave someone else one of my speedo settings, it could cause them problems if they didn't drive in the same way.

The Advice on the Demon Website is very good for the GM120 , Thats how I set mine Up & its Ballistic with a 13.5 SP v3.0 motor on the right Gearing

Check out this link ( Oh Bugger its gone as the New GM120 is now there )

Sorry

I don't agree with the settings on the demon site personally.
