New phone time!

Im looking for a new contract phone, but I do not want a touch screen phone.
Im looking at the Blackberry Bold 9700, I like the idea of a qwerty keyboard, however, Im open to havinmg the standard 12 buttons on a phone aswell.
Any suggestions would be welcome, looking for a decent camera, mp3 / podcast compatability.... gmail integration, google calendar integration would be useful.

Are there any Android phones with buttons?

thanks for any help, Chris.

HTC Hero I think it is, but thats a t-mobile one. Thats touch screen with slide out keyboard.

I like the Omnia Pro, but noone seems to want to stock it cause it will be against the iphone.

Cheers, Ill have a look at the HTC phone. The last phone I had was the Omina i900, nice phone, but couldnt get away with the touch screen.

Just got a nice cheap Nokia E63 with full qwerty keyboard.
It's very good indeed. I just wanted to be able to pick up my e-mails and send e-mails and it works a treat. My missus has an iphone, and that is the dogs, but the Nokia was free on the Virgin £10 a month tariff, so bargain.

the nokia E71 is the big brother to the e63. Has a better camera and 3g. It really is a great phone and the keyboard is ace.

e72, free on most tariffs and improvements on the e71, Touch pro 2, yes its a touch but slide out qwerty keyboard and very good to use.

I know you said no touch screens, but you realy have too look at the HTC HD2, I just got it and its a great phone, and since you want too use google stuff it makes it even better for you, plus it runs windows mobile, which is realy cool, and you can get millions of apps (well not literally millions, but you get the idea) for it, even a ps1 emulator which lets you play ps1 games on your windows mobile phone, but you should realy try a good touchscreen phone, by the way, the HTC hero hasn't got the slide out qwerty keyboard, its the older version that as it

that's the one, forgot they had upgraded the E71 to the next step.

i have a touch pro at the moment by htc. best of both worlds, touch screen for browsing and qwerty for typing. definitely worth an audition.

Thanks guys, I'll get myself to the phone shop soon for a play about, I 'll definately check out the Nokia e72 and the HTC Touch Pro.

Would steer clear of the E series handsets, software fails alot and the OS is slow and clunky.
Omnia pro is not all that either, and the reason it isnt stocked is actually because most customers given the choice betwen it and the I phone will still take the I phone, blame the apple marketing team for that!
Touch pro is a little dated now, sorry Jim.

If you want email compatibility on a handset and don't want to have a touch screen, blackberry is really your best bet.
If you like touch screen handsets then the T mobile/Orange android handsets are actually very good, or get an i phone.

The Iphone is very good especially if you use the internet a lot, bit heavy on the battery tho and the E72 is really nice with a great battery and a very usable qwerty keyboard even with it being quite small, the E71 is similar but has a much slower processor and less memory than the E72.

Blackberry baby :wub

But the E71/72 handsets are simply Nokia attempting to make there own Blackberry.
E series handsets have always had a higher rate of failure, the first E71's i dealt with were returned with software failure, the second batch with battery packs that had 'grown' and suffered from overheating.

I know you said no touch screen but it has to be the iphone. There is not 1 phone out there that even comes close to it. Its a pocket sized beast

Anybody tried the Nokia N900?

I asked exactly the same question.. was thakfull for everyones advice

Ive decided to wait for the N900... it arrives Thursday!!

I wanted internet access and all the usual Nokia style layouts, plus i love data suite for back ups etc, very handy.. Ive had ago on the iphone and that is by far the best for internet.. so lets hope the N900 is as good if not better!

I looked at the E series and decided if going for Nokia there was no point going for the e series as the internet was sooooooooooooo slow.. i may aswell just get a " normal " nokia..

Cheers

Nick

lol, i meant the new version of the touch pro. i know mine is a generation old now. time for an upgrade in a couple of months. HTC have a couple of really nice new phones out in the next month or 2.

i still like my physical keyboard though!

Rich D 16-02-2010 10:17 PM

Another Iphone vote here too :wub - best thing i have bought in years and not at all fiddly with the touch screen interface like i thought it might be.
