a old pc power suply use the 12v and the -12v lines and u will have 24v? and good to you?

fwiw the power supply brick on my old compaq/hp laptop puts out 18.5v for 3.5 amps.

most laptop psu's are around 20v, with quite a few older ones pushing 4.5+ amps, plus you can get hold of them quite cheap these days
