New Schumacher CAT SX2

Schumacher have released news of an update to their CAT SX 4WD electric buggy - the 'SX2' features many updates to improve strength and performance that the team drivers have been testing over the last few months - notably the new 'Big Bore' dampers seen in testing and already a confirmed feature of the new Cougar SV buggy make a welcome addition to the SX2 kit.

Other updated include plastic moulded hinge pin blocks instead of the easily-bent alloy items on the previous car. These should help absorb knocks without damage and are combined with new stronger suspension arms.

  • 3 belt transmission with efficient low tension belts running on large size CNC machined pulleys.
  • Adjustable internal transmission ratio (2.2, 2.4, or 2.6:1) to optimise ratio for brushed or brushless motors.
  • Motor rotates the same direction as the wheels creating a car with superb jumping responsiveness and no torque steer effect as is common with shaft drive cars.
  • Super free ball diffs with silicone nitride balls, pro spec thrust bearing, and steel diff outputs.
  • Strong steel universal joint driveshafts.
  • Smooth twin pad slipper clutch with easy access adjustment running on a New tougher 5mm black spur gear.
  • Unique clamp motor mount to fine tune weight distribution, and allow motor changes without affecting gear mesh.
  • Industry standard wheel fittings.
  • Layshaft or front one way Speed Secret option.
  • Overdrive front pulley Speed Secret option.
  • Optimum weight distribution with stick pack lipo layout.
  • New 2.5mm aerospace grade carbon fibre chassis and top deck.
  • Horizontally split transmission housings for ease of maintenance and diff access.
  • Ultra narrow chassis design to minimise grounding on roll.
  • New Stronger front & rear wishbones.
  • New Stronger 4mm front pivot block screw.
  • New Lighter plastic eccentric housings for adjustment of belt tension and diff height.
  • Rigid servo mount directly onto transmission housing for precise steering.
  • Dirt protected with tight fitting body and undertray.
  • O ring wing mount system to avoid crash damage.
  • New Max sized rear wing.
  • Class leading suspension geometry with durable components and a range of optional alloy parts, offering adjustments to set up your CAT SX2 to any track conditions.
  • New more durable plastic pivot block system with the ability to adjust track width and toe in/toe out.
  • Adjustable rear roll centres, inboard toe-in/toe-out, anti squat and track width using optional alloy block Speed Secret parts.
  • Adjustable front roll centres, inboard toe-in/toe-out, track width and rake angle using optional alloy block Speed Secret parts.
  • New Pro spec big bore shocks with titanium nitride shafts, CNC machined pistons with recessed ‘e’clips, threaded collars, twin O ring sealing and diaphragm volume compensation.
  • Strong and rigid 4mm carbon fibre shock brackets.
  • New lighter plastic steering arms.

Thats not a bad price for the 4WD , kinda makes the 2WD look over priced too me.

Very nice.

The bits that interest me are:

New Lighter plastic eccentric housings for adjustment of belt tension and diff height

New Pro spec big bore shocks with titanium nitride shafts, CNC machined pistons with recessed ‘e’clips, threaded collars, twin O ring sealing and diaphragm volume compensation.

New more durable plastic pivot block system with the ability to adjust track width and toe in/toe out.

New lighter plastic steering arms.

Smooth twin pad slipper clutch with easy access adjustment running on a New tougher 5mm black spur gear. Using RW spurs, but interested in the mounting system

I'd like to know if they've changed the servo mounting system as the original I thought wasn't very good. Many other cars you just bolt the servo in on the Cat SX you've got this lining up rubbish. Too much what if on the mounting.

Glad to see the alloy mounts aren't included....

Other than that, my Cat SX has all the other bits :D

Also noticed that the Cat SX has come down in price. Doesn't bother me as Cat SX is my car for 4WD again this year.

Going to be an expensive month with the new Cat SX bits and Cougar SV

Looks really nice, some good improvements over the original

I wonder how much it will cost to get to Sx2 spec from an original Cat??

Exactly my thought, although I already have the new stiff chassis and top deck, if they are the same.

mikeyscott 08-02-2010 01:17 PM

Just noticed the rear wishbones don't have any holes on the rear...

Godo to see the weedy rear wing has gone.

jim76 08-02-2010 01:32 PM

bit odd how the cougar S1 has cheaper shocks, but the cat S1 will have the big bores?

mikeyscott 08-02-2010 01:40 PM

Indeed, didn't spot that..

MattADH 08-02-2010 01:44 PM

The allen bolt that holds the front mount for the battery strap needs tightening!

Alfonzo 08-02-2010 01:48 PM

Don't know what they put in the water down in Northampton, but the Schumacher boys are hustling a great game right now.
