Plastic Chassis
Having witnessed three drivers break their X6 Squared chassis at the last couple of meetings I decided to pre-empt it happening to me by switching to the plastic chassis.
I've not driven it in anger yet, but I was wondering if any of you who have fitted the plastic chassis have noticed any difference in the way the car drives - e.g. more flex - and if you have found it has resulted in any changes to your setup? You certainly could tell the difference going from carbon to plastic in the B4. Also, I avoided fitting my K-Factory front shock tower to the Carbon Chassis after the warnings on here about transmitting the strength down to the next weakest part. I presume that with the plastic chassis I wil now be safer fitting the K-Factory tower? |
Tony, you should have no problems with Plastic Chassis and K Factory tower combination....

Thanks Darren - as I thought.

A part you do have to make sure is intact it the ASC9566 top plate that goes to the steering rack. I ran a GPM one that has a carbon fibre brace and that had cracked and I thought it would be fine but a hard crash and it allowed the chassis to fold upwards and I broke the nose off.

Here in the U.S. we have looked at a few chassies where the nose broke. In several cases, the top plate had been cracked or had not been fitted properly. The top plate must be intact and must fit correctly into its bosses.
If you think about it, the top plate accepts a portion of the stress loads and transmits them back to the vertical sides of the chassis, which are much better able to handle them than the flat angled front section. |
Plastic Chassis
In my view the plastic chassis transfers the car from being ok to awesome. The chassis allows a little more flex which helps to absorb impacts which is perfect for our tracks as the car never stay on all 4 wheels for 5 minutes anyway. Would advice all to make the switch
