Goodwood FOS - 2007

Festival of Speed 22-24 June,

More info here http://www.goodwood.co.uk/fos/intro.htm

Anyone from here going this year??

If you've not been before i can't recommend it enough, this is my 7th straight visit, it's such a good event for anyone that likes motorsport and i've never been to anything quite like it to be honest - it genuinely seems to get better every year.

MattADH 30-05-2007 12:19 PM

I am going on the Friday.

Just trying to find out if Gary Paffett and Scott Smart will be there.
Heard that Lewis is confirmed but think that McLaren may only be running on the weekend if what Gary told me is true. They didnt run on the Friday in 2006 so that would be a shame...

Nick Goodall 30-05-2007 12:31 PM

Matt i'm the same as you, we usually go on the Friday as it's a bit more reasonable and the Grandstand seats are open so you can go to any one of them.

I doubt Lewis will be there Friday, i find it's usually only the Sunday a lot of the big names show up.... hope so though!

The other benefit with the Friday was that we saw the Zonda get smacked up 2 years ago right in front of us so it wasn't there for the rest of the weekend :D

MattADH 30-05-2007 12:39 PM

Hopefully see you there then! Any tips for a newbie?

We decided to go on the Friday for the same reason - a little more relaxed and cheaper seeing as I had to buy five tickets in total as part of a gift!

Just mailed Scott and he said he doesnt think he will be there...

On the subject of other events though, I am going to get out to a DTM round this year before Gary heads to F1 ;)

Lee Martin 30-05-2007 01:27 PM

ill be there on friday!!!

MattADH 30-05-2007 01:46 PM

Lee - Are you going to take the 350Z up the hill?

Nick Goodall 30-05-2007 02:08 PM

Matt,

It's just such an awesome day, make sure you get there early - we usually get there soon after 7am as you can walk around the pits before it's too busy getting right up to all the old cars F1, Rally, Touring cars and bikes of all era's. The current F1 teams usually start warming the cars up around 8am too so that usually creates a bit of a buzz and gets the crowds built up.

I found the Paddock grandstand which is opposite the big Goodwood house is usually one of the best places as you get to see the cars/bikes for quite a while and they usually absolutely nail it on this section so is good for pics and video. The startline is pretty cool too but gets busy.....

The rally stage was a bit disappointing - they created it last year for the first time but you couldn't see much of it to be honest. I have heard they've improved it for this year, and mr Mikkola has designed the course himself so should be interesting.

Lee's going to bring his new toy (i'm sure he'll tell you what it is) but unfortunately the public can't take cars up there haha, would be good if they were allowed (you'll see what i mean when you see the kind of cars in the car park alone)!

Should be a good day though, hopefully see you there!

Lee Martin 30-05-2007 02:11 PM

Orange again!

Nick Goodall 30-05-2007 03:07 PM

Did you really expect it to be any other colour?? :D

Shame they don't do a pink one as standard hey dude

LiamD 30-05-2007 03:51 PM

It's the weekend after GTi International at Brunters and the same weekend as the VW Summernights 11... so no.

One year I will go to Goodwood though... one year!!!

Them Lotus' go well with the VAG 1.8 20vT engine in the back... ;)

Nick Goodall 30-05-2007 04:31 PM

Liam, there was an Elise with the VAG 1.8 20vt at this Lotus day Lee and I went to last weekend at Castle Combe, but this S2 Exige has the Toyota VVTI 190 Engine but mapped by lotus so it's seriously mental, very loud and revs to nearly 9k :D Lee seems to love it, keeps him smiling anyway

MattADH 30-05-2007 05:08 PM

Nick - I know that the public are not allowed to go up the hill (thought Lee would try and have a go anyway!!!) I had heard that the rally course was going to be better for spectators this year too.

Lee - does the Lotus have even less space now for your racing gear? It is good to see that you have remained loyal to your orange RC sponsors with the road car!

Damn Right! I have this engine in my Hairdresser's Celica, its an absolute screamer.. and unlike a Rover K series doesn't go wrong!

Beeee-utiful car btw Lee :cool::cool:

Lee Martin 31-05-2007 07:16 AM

cheers dude....

yeh the engines the nuts.....

with a few mods also! pimp pimp......

yes matt...even less space now!

LiamD 31-05-2007 09:38 AM

The Exiges are cool, a fit woman near me has one, the noise is ace for a 4 banger.

I saw the 1.8 20vT powered Elise at the Autosport show this year, awesome bit of kit. I'm slightly biased towards VAG cars though!!
