So whats the final consensus concerning the TRF shocks and DB01?
 

Can they be used without the rear shafts falling off?

Do i need shock limiters? how many?

3R racing graphite shock tower?

Normal length TRFs, no spacers.

Atomic Carbon rear shock tower.

Any rear shafts.

No problems.

are they the 501X, 511X or DB-01 upgrade shocks?

The upgrade kit Item #54028

They are great. They do include the longer hop-up titanium shock shafts though. This means they need a bit of limiting in the rear to keep the dog-bones or CVD's from falling out of the outdrive on the DB01. The fronts seem perfectly fine on mine without limiters.

Tamiya's writeup recommends two o-rings as limiters to get the job done in the rear:

The DB01-R kit has the shorter shock shafts from the original 501X kit. The kit instructions recommends a small 1mm plastic spacer as a limiter.

Ok well noted so the upgrade trf shock kit for the db-01 with 2 small red o-rings for the back.

I would also recomend that AC Shock towers, they were designed with the longer shocks in mind, as the upper holes will allow you to run less internal spacers, and also give you more ride-height adjustment, as the rear springs are a little on the 'long side'/

There's three types of shocks? Yikes, I didn't know that...

And I bet the three sets I've got are all different too...

I beleive the hop up and the 511X are the same length (and probably the same shock, but different part number), the original 501X rear shock shafts are a few mm shorter.

AC=all carbon?

While on the subject of carbon tower..

Are they stiffer when compared to the stock ones?

Stiffer then the hop-up graphite plastic ones?

they do a graphite version of the kit tower, AC = Atomic Carbon, made with an extra row of shock mounting holes, higher than the kit ones, to accomodate the longer shocks.

DO NOT BUY THE 3RACING TOWERS!!

DB-01R = Graphite reinforced plastic (stiffer than stock)
Atomic Carbon = Carbon Fibre

What i meant was that are the Carbon fibre tower made by Atomic Carbon stiffer when compared to the plastic kit ones or graphite reinforced plastic.

Atomic carbon parts are really high quality and i would imagine lots stiffer than std. I had some on my 501 and never damaged them once:thumbsup:

Did he used to sell them , as i have just made my own front tower 6mm thick :woot: I`m a sod for breaking the stock carbon ones...
