Upgrade Yokomo shock shafts for the 501X

Can anyone steer me in the right direction for the gold Yokomo shock shafts people are fitting to the TRF 501X? Also what are really good O ring seals for this car?

Hey Jason,

The shock shafts that people are using are the front shock shafts from the MR4BX buggy cant remember the part No off the top of my head, as an alternative you can use the rears at a push. As for O ring seals there are some by much more that are nice and soft and dont produce too much stiction also there is a Tamiya Hopup seal and low friction guide kit available, I've not tried that yet and probably wont until I have to rebuild the shocks fully.

On a side note has the shock tower arrived yet? Or am I being a touch previous?

Front shock shafts YS-5S-2T 43.5mm

Rear shock shafts YS-5M-2T 43.5mm

Rear shock shafts YS-5L-2T 49.6mm used for the rear of the bx better than the kit 43.5mm shafts.

Hope thats some help

Mike

The Yokomo shafts YS-5S-2T (40.7mm) and YS-5L-2T (49.6mm) are an exact replacement (in terms of diameter and length) for the 501X front and rear shafts, respectively.

YS-5S-2T are used on the front of both the MR-4 BC and MR-4 BX, whilst YS-5L-2T are used on the rear of the MR-4 BC only.

See page 21 of the following Yokomo catalogue:

Hope that's of some use.

So just to be straight .... are we saying that :-

use Yokomo YS-5S-2T 40.7mm shafts on the front of the TRF501X
and
use Yokomo YS-5S-2T 43.5mm shafts on the rear of the TRF501X

OR

use Yokomo YS-5S-2T 40.7mm shafts on the front AND the rear of the TRF501X

Dunc 31-05-2007 09:20 PM

Neither! :D

Front: YS-5S-2T (40.7mm)
Rear: YS-5L-2T (49.6mm)

These shafts have identical dimensions to the ones in the kit. Just to be clear this is not guesswork on my part, I ran them on my 501X.

AS Dunc says

However just to throw this into the mix, there is no need to run the rears only the fronts which are the 40.7mm shafts.

Dunc 31-05-2007 09:26 PM

I didn't bother replacing the rears to begin with either, but then managed to bend one of the kit ones slightly

For the amount that they cost from the likes of RC-Champ you may as well replace the lot for peace of mind.

There is that aspect to it, however I have a rather large stock of shock shafts in the spares box so want to use these up first.

Dunc 31-05-2007 09:42 PM

Touché :)

NeilP 01-06-2007 11:38 AM

Thanks guys. Now I know.:)

I assume the reason people use them is that the Yokomo shafts are stronger than the Tamiya ones. Or is it that they're smoother being Ti coated ?

TRF_Tastic 01-06-2007 12:46 PM

Stronger is the main reason Neil.
