Who's the greatest?

I'm not refering to a dodgy 80's TV show but who do we think is the greatest rc racer these fair Isles have given us?

I've been sifting through some old skool mags and started to think about the good ol days.

My money would be on Jamie Booth. He finished second at the '87 Worlds and in later years had a crack with the Tamiya Avante before buggering off to 1/8.

I reckon most people are gonna go for Drescher but have a think and see who else you can come up with.:)

TRF_Tastic 25-05-2007 05:10 PM

Mr Spashet, hasnt done too bad for himself, quite a few World Champ's to his name, but doesnt seem to have been an offroader.

sosidge 25-05-2007 06:02 PM

All-time, you would have to say Spashett just because of the number of major titles he has got.

I have seen him race and obviously he is very fast.

In 2007, I think the best off-road driver is Neil Cragg, best on-road is Andy Moore.

ashleyb4 25-05-2007 07:26 PM

I couldnt choose so i just chose a few

Neil cragg world champion very good driver.

Ellis Stafford Really good driver

Tom Yardy and Phil sleigh Both Mid west drivers who are really good so there in my list of good drivers.

Richard taylor 4wd National champ

Hirosami Miroshami ( Or how the hell you spell it) Multiple world champion and can drive with his feet and behind his back and that takes skill i tried it it was eally really difficult.

Would definetly have to say Ellis Stafford, not old enough to no all the "old skool" drivers. But the first big race i watched was Ellis leaving other drivers in the dust lol

MattW 25-05-2007 08:07 PM

You'll always get different answers as it depends on what people belive makes the best driver.............Does winning a worlds matter??

If you're looking for someone that has gone well across classes, then you probbaly have to say Craig. Because he's been there abouts in various classes for a long period of time, without ever winning a worlds.

Jamie is maybe one of the most talented drivers we've had. Have seen him turn up half way through big meetings and still challenge for the overall win

Neil has obviously won a worlds, and if he carries on at current rate, then will have to be classed as one of the best.

David Spashett has 4 world titles I think ( His touring ISTC wasn't "technically " a world championship). His dedication over the years has been huge. With major attention to detail and dedication. Had a go at Electric Off rd a few years ago, but didn't think much to it i don't think. Obviously now plying his trade with 1/8 rally cross.

Jamie, I once heard someone say if he'd just laid off the booze a little he could have done much better :o and just look at what he did while on the booze!  :D :D

MK999 25-05-2007 10:41 PM

masami hirosaka maybe? :p

DCM 25-05-2007 11:03 PM

Masami, Dresch, Phil Davies, Craggy, there are more but the list could be endless.

TRF_Tastic 25-05-2007 11:11 PM

I've got to say that you've all left someone out!!

Me,

I'm a complete legend, and kick all the afformentioned guys butts, oh and then I wake up!!!!

Must too much mature cheddar before bed making me dream!!

jimmy 25-05-2007 11:13 PM

Masami is good, but I don't think he's from the UK. :D
Drescher and Cragg. Drescher cos he's just ace at everything and still at the to of his game - still able to come to the Euros or Worlds having not driven off road for ages and get in the A final.
Cragg of course because he's the only off road world champion we've ever had - so that makes him a bit of a leg end.

GRIFF55 26-05-2007 12:22 AM

internationaly, its gota be masami, but uk based it, for me has to be Rory Cull, years old i know but i think that was 1 hell of a talent along with jamie booth!!! Both gods in my day, qualifiying with them at indoor finals(mansfield, notts) was one hell of a thing then!!! Both gods!!!!!

andys 26-05-2007 06:56 AM

Glyn Peglar. Old skool legend.

NeilD 26-05-2007 09:14 AM

I'm glad Rory Cull got a mention he was ace. He made the '87 Worlds A along with Jamie. I watched the DVD last night top quality racing. Mark Tatman was another of my favourite drivers from back in the day.

LiamD 26-05-2007 11:38 AM

The two best drivers I have ever seen race are Dave Spashett and the late Phil Davies.

Not only were they incredibly quick, but also two of the nicest people in R/C you could meet.

bender 26-05-2007 12:27 PM

Being an Aussie I can be a little less biased ;)

The best UK driver would have to be between Spashett and Drescher.

David is a 3 time world 1/12th champ, plus he also has a Pro-10 world to his name!

He's made 2 A-Main appearances in the TC world's plus he's been Euro 1/12th champ at least 8 times and TC Euro champ twice.

Now Craig, whilst never winning a Worlds has a stack of titles, mainly in off-road.

He's made at least 5 A-Mains at the Off-road Worlds, won the 2wd off-road Euro's 7 times and the 4wd title 4 times.

In on-road he's made 2 A-Mains at the TC worlds, at least 3 A-Mains at the TC Euro's, and even made the 1/12 Worlds A-Main twice!

I think both of these guys are head and shoulders above the rest, though I believe that Neil Cragg will rank up there with them by the time his career is over :)

RLGfx 26-05-2007 12:30 PM

CML had a great team in the late 90s, Drescher, Marsden et al.... me too... how did i manage that!:o

Pity they also had the MX4... as did I... Very bad car on UK tracks, I think it only went well on the track the worlds was held in 98 (? Yatabe Arena I think?)

Lee Martin 26-05-2007 01:58 PM

dont u mean 97, in the states....

pomona....

ashleyb4 26-05-2007 02:02 PM

Oh didnt read that bit.

I think the greatest is Neil Cragg.
