Novak Ballistic sleeve Gap

1 Attachment(s)
Hello.

I have bought a brand new 8.5t Ballistic motor.
It works Ok but the sleeve fits loose against the endbells, about 0.75mm gap along axis.
Tried several sleeves and also exchanging the winding module for another bought directly from Novak but the result is the same.
It is an aesthetical problem but dirt can get inside motor thru this gap.
See pic attached.
My motor is one of the earliest batch. Some friends of mine recently bought he same motor but the fit is ok. Maybe any teething problems?

Anyone had any similar experience?

Thanks and regards.

I've not noticed this on my recent Ballistic motors, but I'll check tonight.

Have you tried a different end cap (motor screw end)?

Maybe worth measuring the various components and compare these to a known "good" motor.

OK, let's see what I have measured, please check pic for keys. :)

A= 14.45mm (Ballistic Front End Bell ref#5940, shaft side).
B= 1mm (slot to fit stator)
C= 20.55 /20.55 stator (I have two stators, 8.5t & 6.5t).
D= 18.09mm orange sleeve length.
18.15mm blue sleeve.
18.19mm black sleeve.

Back End Bell (sensor side) is inline with the solder post support.

Thanks for the input.

Im guessing the sleeve had a manufacturing problem causing it to be smaller than the others. Have you tried contacting Novak or CML and confirming the dimensions.

Yes, I have written an email to Novak customer support just before christmas but no word yet.

Hey,

I've had the same issue.

I asked on the Novak thread on RC tech.

This is the reply.
Hi Mick,

The gap isn't something to really worry about, it's basically just a tollerance issue with the sleeve that plays no performance role.

If you are concerned about hte sleeve spinning you can simply slide the sleeve off and put a strip of decal down on the lamination to tighten up the interference fit when you slide the sleeve back on.

this is interesting. i had this "issue" with my old 7.5 velocity. (i believe the construction of the can is totally different from the ballistic?)
could never tighten the sleeve. it could rotate around the can easily.

never did fix it .. just lived with it :cry:

will have to change my 8.5 ballistic now .. ..
