How old is your son? There are some good Pit bikes around now for good money which are ideal to start on and a cheap eye opener to see if he likes it or definitely wants to have a go at some racing....

Just be prepared for the cost of this as a hobby though, if anyone thinks R/C racing is expensive, MX is a whole new ball game - similar to Karting in that way but equally great fun :thumbsup:

If you need any help ref MX give me a PM, I have raced MX for the last 8 years till last year and gone road racing.

Its a great fun hobby, but RC is pretty cheap compared to it!

Best bet is get yourself along to your local club from the ACU website and have a chat to the other Dads and keep an eye out for a bike, dont buy a cheap bike as it will cost you alot more in the long run, these bikes get thrashed from day 1 so buy as new as you can afford.

Just be preppared to have your wallet drained!! :thumbsup:

we are planning to pop along to a track when they next have a meeting on.

I never found the cost of mx too bad when i raced.(4/5 years ago). Best thing you can do is go alon to a meet, have a mingle and speak to the local shop. Trails and motocross news has some bargains in the back, but you have to know what your looking for. I found buying a new bike (not the cheapest i know) every year worked out well as you had the spares kit and didn't have to replace hardly anything apart from tyres and the odd chain and sprocket in a season. Year old bikes always sell for good money too;)
All i can suggest is never skimp on kit!! good helmet, boots and armour, doesn't matter about the fancy colours, just go for the best you can afford. Great sport at all levels, freindly helpful people everywhere and most of all FUN!!!! Kinda wish i had good knees and wasnt so fat now... lol

Nothing wrong with starting out on a pit bike at a small track without big jumps - far less intimidating for a 10 year old and a much cheaper way to "have a go" and decide if he likes it or not.
