Lazer Zx-r restoration

Finally got some time to start the restoration of my Kyosho Lazer Zx-r, one of my favourite RC car for sure  .

I bought this used Zx-r in march 2009 from a nice guy here on oOple; to be sincerely I spent some time in order to convince him to ship in Italy, but at the end I finally got my Lazer and we were both happy, so thanks again Peter (MMRCCSOWL here on oOple) .

Finding all spares in order to restore an original Zx-r was really a challange, but .... you will see the result ;) !!

Hope you enjoy the build.

Bye
Ema

Here’s some picture before the start.
This buggy is (was) really in great shape, with no wear on the transmission parts and with some really nice upgrades ( wasp racing carbon chassis, alu suspension holder and rw racing spure gear ).

The diffs were a little gritty, so I decided to rebuild them ;) !

Nice. Well as you know bits can be bought as they have been molded. Still nice.

Added a new chassis and a new top deck ...

Wow, is that the Teamline front shock mount? Haven't seen one of those since back in the day. It was my fav mount for the front. How come you have ditched the carbon chassis? Kind of understand if you are going for a 100% stock shelf queen, but I think the carbon chassis you have is a later model and has slightly better weight distribution. No doubt Welshy will be able to confirm/deny this:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

You are right, but in this thread I'm only a collector :D !!
Here my target is to rebuild a 100% original Lazer that will never hit the track, but don't worry, a pure racer will follow shortly (or at least I hope so :D).

Not really sure about the front shock mount brand, but I can post a better picture if you want ;) .

Ok, I will try to be more clear .... this will be a 100% stock shelf queen (to be honest not really 100%, as I have to wait a Zx-r body repro from Kamtec ...).

You are right, the wasp racing chassis is an MK2 layout, not really sure about the weight distribution with lipos, but probably slightly better with NiCd ( ... NiMh are too newer in this thread :D !!).

Lazer Parts

Pretty sure 2 of those 3 lazer parts came from me ;-)

kek23k 07-01-2010 07:10 PM

I think my love for carbon fiber would over-rule any desire for a shelf queen but I understand. I'm pretty sure that's a Teamline or PAP(Pete's Awesome Products) front shock mount, you should keep it safe as it's one of the only designs not available at Fibrelyte.

Keep us updated with your rebuild and I'd love to see your runner too.

I also love carbon parts .... the runner will have a lot of them  !!!
But you have to wait a little as I need to get some minor parts (hex screws, new shocks, associated ballstud, RPM rod ends, ect. )

However in the meantime you can watch some updates here ;) !!

Here's a view of the front end ..... ops, exploded front end :D !!

All parts were carefully cleaned, the little rust on the front universal was removed easily with a WD40 shower :D !
Yes, there's also a set of NIP whisbone and upper rod ends... and yes again, also the front shock tower is new !

As all of you know the gold kyosho shocks were great, but the anodization came off very easily.
However these front shocks were really in great condition (I can really say mint ...) and they still not leak a drop of oil since 1993  !

Id like to see a close up of the front shock tower as well, as it all depends on the camber link holes. As soon as I see it I can tell if its a PAP, or teamline (which Im not sure it is) wasp or my design.

Here's a better picture of the carbon front shock tower ;) !

That's definitely the last shock mount I ever purchased for my zxr, I'm pretty sure it's Teamline but i know for definite that Welshy will be able to tell us. You guys have got me checking ebay for a zxr to do up now lol.
